If you were forced to compile of a list of the good, the bad and the ugly, sight-unseen, could you do it? For example, could you tell that Chevy Chase's newest National Lampoon movie was going to be horrible due to this last? Well, yeah, of course! Using the same logic, we're marking Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 up on our do not play list. The only question now is why.
DWG2 may be one of the newest games out, but that's only due to its release date. When it comes to originality, it's basically the same game as before. The repetition of the controls, although not always a bad thing, is tedious and mind-numbing in Gundam 2. Koei's series of Warriors games has its good points, unfortunately, this isn't one of them. And it's not that the content is wholly unoriginal or that the game doesn't have any appeal. It's just the countless hours of mirrored motion is enough to make a land-lover sea sick.
The game offers a ton of characters and introduces new players to the in-dept universe of Gundam. But in order to grasp what's going on, you also have to be familiar with the entire Warrior line. It's like watching Rocky IV without seeing the prequels - you're just lost.
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 isn't badly designed, flawed in any way (technically), or in danger of causing seizures. It's just boring beyond belief. Imagine doing the exact same thing for countless hours. It's like Tetris without the payoff. It's like getting the same hand, over and over again, in a video poker game. You'd eventually pack it up and play Monopoly.
