This huge, action-filled diorama of the famous Raiders of the Lost Ark scene contains thousands of pieces and hundreds of hours of building.

The first time we see Indiana Jones sets up the expectation for the entire franchise (which is getting an expansion next year)– action, adventure, and comedy. It’s a great introduction and one of the most memorable openings to a movie ever and solidified Harrison Ford’s place as an action star in less than five minutes (that “fake” boulder was no joke).

Caleb Watson showed off this huge Raiders of the Lost Ark diorama he built– complete with skeletons, a golden idol, a massive boulder, and a plane– at BrickCon in Seattle. It has thousands of pieces. It uses six motors that animate the booby traps, cycle the rolling boulder into place, and add some motion to the minifigs, as well. The diorama even has Indy’s escape plane with a pilot. This huge build took a lot of work and creativity.

The back of the LEGO Raiders of the Lost Ark diorama shows all of the engineering that went into it. Not only did Watson have to build in all the moving parts, but he also had to construct a frame that could hold all of it.

Tour of the Diorama

Beyond the Brick and Watson walk us through the diorama and how it works. You really get a sense of how big it is while they stand next to it and as they walk around the build.
