From the Con floor to the stage of the competition- we’re sharing some groovy Comicpalooza Cosplay 2023 content!

One of my favorite events to cover each year is Comicpalooza in Houston, Texas. It’s touted as Texas’s largest comic convention, and there’s a reason why! From amazing pop-culture guests and celebrities to exciting panels… all the way to a fantastic cosplay competition of more than 80 competitors of different levels! This year there were some exciting cosplays on the convention floor, and we’re here to share them!

Comicpalooza is a three-day convention held in May/June each year. There is a wide range of cosplay panels (from wig craft to social interactions, construction to competition prep), and the themes of cosplay in the halls are myriad. We got to walk the convention floor last weekend and stopped to fawn over a variety of gorgeous cosplay concepts. I particularly loved some of the niche characters that came out of the woodwork.

The cosplay competition was the culmination of the weekend’s efforts, showcasing many beginners and a few shining examples of excellent advanced craftsmanship. One cosplayer spent hundreds of hours meticulously hand-beading an entire skirt in beautifully patterned designs for their Disney-inspired cosplay. One hand created thousands of foam feathers for a DC look. The work was stunning, the efforts on maximum… and we even got a bit of A Goofy Movie Powerline dancing! All-in-all it was an excellent weekend, and we’re looking forward to what’s coming next year. Enjoy!
