Games Workshop has a new Mission for Necromunda players to try out that’s a Prison Break. But who’s the Prisoner?
First up, if you haven’t read the mission or the lore and you don’t want spoilers you should do that now. Read Escape the Deep and come back — we’re not going anywhere.
The mission itself is a neat change of pace. You can play with the gangs in the lore or you can change things up and use this as a basis for a customized scenario. But we’re not here to talk about the actual mission. We’re here to talk about the lore bomb from this Necromunda Apocrypha.
Necromunda Apocrypha – The Mystery Prisoner
We get a couple big clues about the prisoner in the text. Here’s the important part:
- The Prisoner is a woman
- She’s locked in a windowless cell and not let out
- She is from a Noble family but fled them to avoid “a lifetime of servitude”
- She has one-eye
- Her designation is UD-414
So who could she be? Well, I’ve got a pretty good guess based on just those clues…
Do you know the tale of D’onne Ulanti? Aka “Mad Donna” Ulanti. No? Well here’s a few snippets from her story:

“Donna’s destiny was to follow the course of all the noble daughters in Hive Primus, and to be married off for political reasons…
…In order to keep her pure for the proposed future marriage, her father Sylvanus locked her in a needle thin tower on the outside of the Spire. What happened to her during her years of isolation out there no one will ever know. Some say that her father used to come into the tower and torment her. Some say that she could not endure living under the vast ceilingless skies of the outside.”
Lady Ulanti blasted her way out of a dinner with her suitor and then…
“Amidst all of the confusion, she was somehow able to escape the Ulanti palace, get past the wall into Hive City, and then continue down and down until she hit the bottom. In the settlement of Glory Hole she was taken in by an Escher Gang and so began a long and colourful career among the gangs of the underworld.”
After some time developing a reputation in the Underhive she even removed her own eye (after a few too many drinks, obviously).
So we have a former Lady of a Noble House who fled a life of servitude, she’s only got one eye, she was tormented in a windowless cell by her father and now by her captors, and what about her designation?
Her name is D’onne Ulanti. Or Ulanti D’onne. U.D. — as in UD-414. Now is that confirmed? No. But she’s also got a rage inside of her and she wants to kill her “Family” so…yeah I think based on all this evidence I think we have a pretty good candidate for this Mysterious Prisoner.
“Hey, waitaminute, didn’t she already get a new model from Forge World back in 2018?”
Not quite. While this Bounty Hunter shares a LOT of similarities to “Mad Donna” this is a different Lady altogether. This is Belladonna De’Escher. And she doesn’t like to be confused with Mad Donna.
In anycase, this story could be a signal that GW is bringing back a classic Bounty Hunter to Necromunda. And even if it’s not, it sounds like she’s got some other key part to play in the rebellion on Necromunda.
