Wizards of the Coast revealed new details for the release of Duskmourn: House of Horrors, a new Magic: The Gathering set, which is headed to retail on September 27, 2024.
In the latest round of Duskmourn news, WotC revealed somewhat of an astonishing promotion. Alongside the new Buy-a-Box promo, which is a Twitching Doll (see gallery), they will also send WPN retailers a quantity of promotional Collector Boosters to give away with the purchase of a sealed box of Duskmourn: House of Horrors Play or Collector Boosters. These boosters are meant to be a bonus for early box sales and to create some level of urgency for the customer base to purchase the new set. The Collector Boosters will arrive in the marketing kit in a quantity base on play metrics data.
Also, Welcome Decks are headed back to retail as of Duskmourn: House of Horrors. These decks have phased in and out of Magic: The Gathering as a new player promotion over the last decade, and had at some point been replaced with a Welcome Booster in 2020 (see “‘Welcome Booster’“). The new decks will have 30-cards, each box will come with two decks, and can be given away free of charge to new players after a demo.
The Duskmourn: House of Horrors event schedule will feature a Trick or Treat event. It is a sealed event where players purchase 4 Duskmourn: House of Horrors Play Boosters from the store’s stock and receive two random boosters provided by WotC. Players who do so will get a special Trick Event Goodie Bag that has an Emblem to begin the event’s games with. It has the following text: “Whenever an enchantment enters the battlefield under your control, choose one: Trick – create a treasure token. Treat – create a food token.” WPN retailers can schedule this event prior to August 23, 2024, and the Goodie Bags can also be given away to customers that buy $75 worth of product in the store.
WotC also released the Key Date schedule for this set. It goes as follows:
