In celebration of the new movie we’re busting out Deadpool and Wolverine on the Tabletop in Marvel: Crisis Protocol.

So there’s this movie that out this weekend. You’ve probably heard of it. Anyhow, I’ve got my ticket but won’t get to see it until Sunday. So, to help pass the time, I’m playing some Marvel: Crisis Protocol this weekend. And wouldn’t you know it — I just happen to have both Deadpool and Wolverine in my collection. I think you know where this is going.

Oh and hey — this is a Spoiler Free Zone. So please respect your other readers and don’t post anything about the movie here. I don’t even want to see stuff from the trailers in the comments. Let the movie be OUT for the weekend before we start talking about everyone in it, okay?

Deadpool & Wolverine In Marvel: Crisis Protocol

Based on the format in MCP you bring a roster of 10 heroes with you. Then, once you get the missions and threat level situated, you assemble your Crisis Squad together to tackle the missions. There’s also Affiliations to work with that can provide you with some extra bonuses (like leadership abilities), too. Or…you can just grab characters and throwdown with your buddy for fun. In this situation, we’re going to go with a more “structured” approach and pretend we’re putting together a list for more organized play.

The first thing I like to start with is actually the Affiliation I’m playing. That helps cut down on the sheer number of characters and lets me focus a bit more. Since we’re basing our roster on both Deadpool and Wolverine, I’m going to focus on the Affiliations that include them both. Of which, there’s really only two choices: Avengers and X-Force.

But you know what? We’re going to keep this super simple and just go with X-Force. Not only do I think this is more thematic based on the Deadpool movies but it also cuts down drastically on the heroes in the Affiliation.

It also happens that X-Force is exactly 10 characters. Boom! Roster complete. That was easy. Now, let’s put together some lists!

The List(s)

The first thing we need do is settle on a leader. WHELP, X-Force currently only has one leader: Cable. So that’s pretty much set. Considering Cable is a BIG part of Deadpool 2, this seems appropriate!

It doesn’t hurt that his leadership ability is fantastic for an aggro-style list. And considering we’re going to focus on Deadpool and Wolverine…well, yeah. Checks out!

So…what are we sitting out right now in terms of threat level?

X-Force – The Base

  • Cable – 5
  • Deadpool – 3
  • Wolverine – 4

We’ve got a respectable 12 point base to build from. Having not seen the new movie, I’m going to look back at the previous movies, ya know, for accuracy! And there was one larger than life character in both previous movies that should totally be in this list: Colossus!

Colossus slots in at threat 4 so that brings us up to a 16 point list. That’s probably the lowest point total we’re going to get play at. But what if we go up from there? Unfortunately, this is where we hit a bit of a snag. There isn’t another 5 threat level character we can just swap Colossus out for. However… If we do have to build a 17 power list I’d suggest X-23 and Honey Badger in place of Colossus.

They really work well together and hey, it’s just more Wolverines, right?! Combined they are 5 threat. Now, if we need to bump up to 18, it could be tempting to swap out X-23 for Colossus and call it a day. And yeah, that works for 18. But what if we instead swap out Honey Badger for Domino.

Domino is threat 3 and slots in really well for snagging objectives and just getting lucky! And hey, if you’ve got Cable then you’ve got Domino in your collection already. Plus she was in Deadpool 2, so it fits the theme!

At 19 threat we could go back to the drawing board as we’ve got 7 threat to play with. It’s a tough call! But I think I’d rather have Colossus and Domino in that line-up. Heck, I could even see a case for Bishop — but again, we’ve got a theme going on here. Colossus and Domino were in the second movie together. I think that tips the scale for me.

The final point value I’m going to worry about is 20. And that’s a lot of threat value to work with. But I think the solution is pretty clear. Swap out Colossus again for X-23 and Honey Badger. That’s a lot of bodies on the tabletop to be a lot of places and cause problems.

X-Force – 20 Threat List

  • Cable – 5
  • Deadpool – 3
  • Wolverine – 4
  • Domino – 3
  • X-23 – 3
  • Honey Badger – 2

Not only is this pretty thematic it’s really just seven miniatures total. Again, you can pick-up Bishop, Sabertooth, and Psylocke — I’d actually encourage it! It’s pretty easy to swap out the threat 4 characters in the roster out and shuffle things up. But for this theme I’m cool with this setup.

Team Tactic Cards?

Look, there’s a LOT to work with here. So I’m just going to mention two cards I’d want to include:

I’m mentioning this because it’s the replacement card for X-Ceptional Healing. If you didn’t know AMG announced a Card Rotation at the Ministravaganza. So I just want to get the word out on that one. The other card is too obvious not to include.

Look, it doesn’t matter if this card is meta or not. If you bring a Colossus and a Wolverine to the table and you DON’T use Fastball Special! you’ve already lost the game. I’m pretty sure that’s in the rulebook or errata or something (reference: Rule of Cool on page 69).

But seriously, there’s a lot of Team Tactic cards to choose from that work with the X-Force and these setups in particular. So have fun and experiment. That’s what I’m planning on doing this weekend!

Anyone want to take a crack at an Avengers List featuring Wolverine and Deadpool?
