So many miniatures, so many rules. So many in fact that they don’t always make the jump from edition to edition. Here are some of our Warhammer 40K lost favorites.

Games Workshop has had an impressive catalog of miniatures over the years. But sometimes things happen with those miniatures and they get retired or just flat-out skipped for the next edition. The Dark Eldar Range in particular has quite a few miniatures that just went the way of the dodo bird. That said we still have a few favorites that we wanted to share with you today.

Lord Commander Solar Macharius

The Imperial Guard Character that launched a campaign that reclaimed nearly a thousand worlds for the Imperium, Lord Commander Solar Macharius is one of the greatest heroes of the Imperium. Not only does he have a fully fleshed-out backstory, but he also had rules AND a miniature. Alas, he was sent to MTO status and his rules haven’t been seen in a codex in a few editions now. We salute you Macharius!

Agnhkor Prok

Agnhkor Prok was a legendary Kroot Warriors and leader. He is responsible for the strong T’au/Kroot alliance and was an important figure in their short history. Unfortunately, as Kroot have kind of taken a backseat, Prok has fallen by the wayside as well. Again, another classic hero who had a miniature and, more importantly, RULES lost to the sands of time.

Dark Angels Veteran Sergeant Naaman

Space Marine Characters who are scouts are few and far between. That’s why when they go away, it’s important to take notice. Of all the characters on this list, however, we know what happened to Veteran Sergeant Naaman. He died heroically in battle – which is more than we can say for many of these other characters. He was a scout character before they were cool and he also had a unique mini with rules as well. We’re not sure why GW literally killed him off in the lore – but they DO have a TON of characters…and Naaman drew the short straw.

Asdrubael Vect – Lord of Commorragh

Oh Vect – will we ever see his return to the tabletop? Probably not. But that doesn’t mean we can ever forget this crazy model! Asdrubael Vect is so important that he still plays a part in the Lore as recently as the Psychic Awakening storyline on the Drukhari side of things. But his model has been out of print for a long time now and he hasn’t had rules in a few editions now. Maybe one day…

Colonel Schaeffer’s Last Chancers

The 13th Penal Legion, aka The Last Chancers, are a unique unit in the lore. They aren’t just a typical Penal Legion unit – they are an elite team that has been assembled to carry out extremely dangerous missions. They are the Grimdark version of the Dirty Dozen but instead of a movie, they got a few novels about them. Their miniatures are… eclectic. But they existed and even had rules. Plus there’s a bunch of them so this is kind of a bonus (or is it cheating?) over the “top 5” limit. But the Judges allowed it so we’re making it count!

Blood Angels Sanguinary High Priest Corbulo

Corbulo soldiered on longer than most in the grimdark, with a miniature hailing from the 2nd Edition Angels of Death codex from 1996.  Twenty-eight years later he was unceremoniously dumped from the latest 10th Edition Blood Angels codex. It is his duty to guard the Red Grail, the holy cup which was used to preserve the blood of Sanguinius after he was slain. It is from this cup that the assembled Sanguinary Priests drink as part of the ritual of initiating a new Sanguinary Priest.  I can only hope that he drinks deeply, sleeps it off in a coffin, and reemerges in a new Primaris form (with a new mini) in a future Blood Angels codex. In the meantime – rest well Corbulo, you’ve certainly earned it.
