Blades in the Dark has a new expansion from its creator, John Harper. Deep Cuts expands both setting and systems for the popular RPG.

Exciting news for all your Blades in the Dark fans out there. John Harper, creator of the game, has just released a brand new expansion, Blades in the Dark: Deep Cuts. In this new 118 page book, a treasure trove of new rules and setting details fit for any gang of thieves.

It is astounding to me that this is Harper’s first supplement for Blades in the Dark, especially after seven years. But it looks like Deep Cuts will satisfy even the most jaded rogue. It has modular rules you can play with that touch on everything from Harm and Healing to Actions and Teamwork. And it has new lore. It’s feast time in Doskvol.

Blades in the Dark: Deep Cuts – Out Now On DriveThruRPG

Deep Cuts does exactly that. This is a sizable expansion for the game, with new grooves cut deep (pun intended) into the tracks of Doskvol. GMs and Players will find a lot to tinker with. If you love getting in under the hood of a game, or just having new options, this book has you covered.

There are 27 new factions with “new lore and crew opportunities,” as well as more than a hundred new heritage and background packages, which really blows the gates of Doskvol, the setting, wide open. Players will especially love the new innovations—new technological advances with rare and restricted gear to delight any Playbook. But what I’m most excited for is what Harper calls the catalysts.

“[A catalyst] is a world-shaking event that expandsand alters the setting of the game, providing new avenues for adventure, as well as opportunities and scores for every crew type.

This System (Expansion) Won’t Keep You Down

And that’s just the “lore” side of things. There are also some pretty substantive rules expansions in here. Blades in the Dark: Deep Cuts is a setting and systems expansion, after all. And the systems part is six different modular rules systems. Here you’ll find new rules for Harm and Trauma, a modified Advancement system, new diceless Downtime rules, a new gear system, and new rules for Actions.

If you have somehow never tried Blades in the Dark by this point, this is your perfect opportunity to jump in and play. Not only do you have the whole base game to discover, but there’s even more stuff to play with. And if you are a seasoned Scoundrel, this may be the perfect time to satrt a new crew.

Doskvol awaits. Get out there and make your fortune!
