The Nemesis Claw Kill Team Unit got an updated Datasheet for Warhammer 40,000. Time to drop in these surprise psykers and unleash terror!
Games Workshop had a quick update for the Nemesis Claw Night Lords Unit for Warhammer 40,000 drop. This one kind of flew under the radar as they didn’t make a big announcement about it. That said, I really like this Kill Team’s miniature upgrades and I wanted to take a look at the datasheet. You can always download these direct from GW’s download page. So snag this one for yourself. Now, let’s get into it!
Nemesis Claw Datasheet
As the Nemesis Claw unit is a Chaos Space Marine unit itself the obvious comparison is to Legionaries. Stat-wise, they have one less OC. They don’t have quite the same weapon options as they are missing the Reaper Chaincannon. However, they have a few different Melee weapon options open to them with the Nostraman options.
Abilities-wise, it looks like they swap out Veterans of the Long War for Visions of Suffering which is a Psychic ability. This allows to get a boost to their to hit and to wound rolls when the target is below their starting strength and below half-strength. The Night Lords are known to “pile it on” weakened targets. Oh and they also gained Stealth, too.
They also swap out their Chaos Icon for the Voice Eater. This is a mean little debuff as it prevents enemy units from receiving Stratagems while they are in engagement range of this unit. I could see this being very useful.
It’s worth pointing out that in terms of keywords they don’t have battleline but they do have Psyker. They are also Nemesis Claw as opposed to Legionaries which makes sense, too. Points wise, they come in more expensive than Legionaries. They cost 110 for 5 but you do get a discount if you take the full 10-man squad for 190. Currently, Legionaries are 20 points cheaper for both sizes.
Rise of the Night Lords?
While this unit does seem useful because of their ability to shut off Stratagems (except on Monsters and Vehicles) I don’t know if they are going to suddenly shake-up the meta. I could see folks swapping them out for a Legionaries Squad (if you can shave 20 points from somewhere). I also think if your list is geared towards close-combat having a unit like they could be particularly useful. But you’d have to be setup for that or build into it.
Personally, I just think that having “new Legion Specific” rules for the Night Lords is a great step. This unit already looks fantastic so giving them some rules to make them different from regular CSM Legionaries is a nice step. Ultimately, I’m hoping this is just a sign of things to come for some of the other Chaos Legions. I’d LOVE to see Word Bearers, Iron Warriors, and Alpha Legion get a similar treatment. Physical miniature upgrades for the CSM Legionaries to make them part of those Legions AND rules like these.
So CSM Players, are you going to take the Nemesis Claw Unit out for a spin?
