Games Workshop is taking us back to Cadia through the lens of Warhammer+ and the show Hammer & Bolter. This could a big deal!
Back in 2017 (in our real world time) Games Workshop changed the status quo for the universe of Warhammer 40,000 in a big way. The planet of Cadia, a world that had stood against the horrors of the Eye of Terror for ten thousand years, had fallen. And it didn’t just fall to Chaos — it was sundered to it’s very core.
It was a momentous event for both the Imperium and the forces of Chaos. With it’s fall, the Eye of Terror fully opened and the Great Rift tore across the galaxy. It was also a major leap forward in the overall narrative and allowed for something we hadn’t really seen in the seven previous editions of 40k: new narrative territory. For the first time in a long time Warhammer 40,000’s story was trending on new ground. We’d finally moved passed the “1 second to midnight” on the eve of the year 40,001. We were now all in on the “new normal” with Primaris Marines and an Imperium cut in half.
Anyhow, since 2017 we haven’t really heard much about Cadia’s status. The last sort of update we got was in January of 2018 with the Adeptus Custodes codex. All we learned was that Captain General Trajann Valoris had sent a small force of Custodians to the remains for an undisclosed purpose. But other than that…it’s been relatively quiet on the Cadian front.
The Cadian’s themselves are still around however. They are still fighting for the Imperium. Now, after all this time, we’re finally going back to the wreckage of Cadia. And our eyes and ears will be none other than a squad of Cadians…
I’ll be the first to admit there’s not a lot to go off of with this teaser trailer. However, we do get a look at a huge chunk of what I can only assume was part of the surface of Cadia. The chunk looks to be really well fortified, too. I’m curious to see what this squad is doing and why. The only way to do that is to watch the Hammer & Bolter episode on Warhammer+ coming soon.
It’s kind of crazy to think that there are just chunk of what used to be Cadia still floating around. But it does make sense. With this being the Grimdark it’s also not a huge surprised that those chunks have been turned into fortifications. I do wonder who’s actually garrisoning them. We are pretty deep into the Chaos Turf here…
In any case, all those questions will likely be answered soon enough. And I’m sure I’ll have more after the fact. For now, it’s time to prepare to return to Cadia. At least the Cadians will have some back-up when the new codex drops.
What do you think the Cadian Squad will find when they arrive for their homecoming?
