Games Workshop has a new Horus Heresy Mechanicum box out this weekend. Check out the Heavy Support Force up close!
If you like big tanks and big robots Games Workshop has a new box for you! The Mechanicum Heavy Support box is up for pre-order this weekend and we got send a review copy. We have the miniature built and in the studio for some pictures.
Thanatar Calix
First up is my personal favorite from the batch the Thanatar Calix. I don’t play the Mechanicum in the Horus Heresy, but if I did, I would run as many of these siege-automata as I could. I really like the look of these miniatures in general.
I also appreciate the details of these kits. The individual bolts on the armor plates help to break up the surface area a bit. The line work in general is just really nice and clean.
Krios Strike Tank
Krios Strike Tank comes with three different weapon options. It can also be built as a Krios Venator. So your assembly options are up to you.
If I had to rank the three miniatures in this box this one is my least favorite. While I do like aspects of this kit, like the driver hanging out on top, I don’t like it overall. Again, this is relative to the other options in the box. Plus I just don’t think this design is my cup of tea. But that’s okay — not everything needs to have my personal stamp of approval. If this tank is your jam then more power to you.
Karacnos Assault Tank
The Karacnos Assault Tank is a strange one. At least to me. It certainly fits in with the rest of the Mechanicum vehicles. It shares that retro-future sci-fi look that makes the Mechanicum so distinct. I also like the mortars that are built within the top of the hull.
I think it’s a neat looking tank overall. I would rank this one as my second favorite from these three. I do like how the tank has “Land Raider” vibes but it isn’t one. I put the blame on Imperial engineering. The similarities helps tie all the forces of mankind together. At the same time it’s very different and stands apart.
The Mechanicum Heavy Support Force is up for Pre-order today from Games Workshop. It’s slated to hit stores in early March of 2025!
