There’s exciting characters coming to the tabletop for Marvel: Crisis Protocol. X-Factor is coming. Here’s a who’s-who of who we want!

In case you missed the AdeptiCon Preview, X-Factor is coming. Although this team is coming in sort of a roundabout way. First, let’s look at the reveal and then we’ll get into all the nitty-gritty.

From the preview above you can see we’re getting Dani Moonstar, “Havoc” (which should be spelled Havok…I hope they catch that before it goes to print), Jubilee, and Multiple Man. Now, all of these characters have connections to the X-Men. However, there’s a bit of a split between these four characters. They branch off into two different teams. You’ve got the Dani Moonstar and Jubilee branch that goes on the New Mutants connection. And then you’ve got Havok and Multiple Man who are both on the X-Factor side of things. We’re going to be focusing on the X-Factor side of the branch for this article.

What is X-Factor?

So this get’s a little complicated. The original X-Factor team was an off-shoot of the X-Men. They launched in 1986 and the team consisted of Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, and Iceman. There’s a lot going on with the history here that I can’t really condense down and do it justice. Just know that this OG series introduced Apocalypse, how we get Archangel, and also has the origins of Cable.

But here’s the rub, that OG X-Factor Team isn’t the same one as the Government Team that’s created later. Why did they use the same name? I don’t know — probably cause they had the rights and it fit with the whole “X” theme for mutants. Anyhow, this “Government” Team is also called X-Factor and it’s roster includes the following:

  • Havok
  • Multiple Man
  • Polaris
  • Quicksilver
  • Strong Guy
  • Wolfsbane
  • Valerie Cooper

Eventually, Forge also joins the team — there’s a whole thing with Cooper becoming compromised and getting replaced…That’s not the point. The core of the team is really Havok, Multiple Man, Polaris, Strong Guy, and Wolfsbane. They are really the heart of this team in terms of what a lot of folks think of as “X-Factor” members.

X-Factor – Growing The Roster

So, what does that mean for Marvel: Crisis Protocol in terms of an X-Factor roster? Well, they’ve already got two of the key members. And the next ones are probably waiting in the wings.

Polaris and Forge both appeared in an X-Men: The Animated Series (’92) episode. If you’re not familiar with Polaris, she’s got magnetism powers like her father…Magneto. She seems like a perfect fit for MCP in the future. I’m not sure which version they go with but I’m positive they could create a fantastic miniature for her.

Forge is also a well known member of X-Men lore and I’ve been waiting for AMG to bring him to the tabletop for a long time. Not to mention that he’s been teased in Team Tactic Card art before. I really do think it’s just a matter of time before he shows up. I really hope AMG gives him a comically large weapon of some type.

Strong Guy is another obvious addition to the roster as well. He’s a heavy for sure. And super teams always need a “Big Guy” on the roster. Personally, I’ve always found his disproportionate shape to be eye catching. Bro might go light on leg day but he’s got the beach muscles on lock-down.

Wolfsbane could be another easy option for filling out the roster. I know we already have one Werewolf in the game but Wolfsbane is different because uh…she’s a mutant. And she’s Scottish. Oh, and Maisie Williams played here in that New Mutants movie from 2020. Everyone remembers that movie, right? I’m mostly poking fun here, but she is a deadly combatant and, again, is an obvious addition to the team.

That’s four more characters that would be easy additions to an X-Factor roster. I also think rounding out the team with a few existing characters is an easy win, too. Obviously there’s Quicksilver in the line-up. But we could even go further back and snag Iceman. And while we’re doing that, why not Beast and Angel, too. That would round out the roster to a full 10 members making it an easy Affiliation option for Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Plus, you’ve got options to swap in other X-Men or New Mutants to give players a flexible roster. Heck, if you wanted to really go nuts you could dabble in the later X-Factor roster when they add Mystique and Sabertooth…

Anyhow, I think X-Factor would be a fun Affiliation to see added to the game. Hopefully MCP does too!
