Goatboy here with an army list for the Emperor’s Children Coterie of the Conceited Detachment. This one is more dangerous than it seems at first glance.

Goatboy here with an army list for that week.  My initial review of Coterie of the Conceited was a detachment that seemed hard to get working. It appears I might have been completely wrong and it feels like this might be the best one in the book.  It’s ability to power up so much of the Emperor’s Children army quickly is one of the reasons why the better competitive players have started to test this detachment and lists from it.

Why Coterie of the Conceited?

Coterie of the Conceited is the detachment that has you “pledge” amount of pact points to try and get during the turn.  These are points you earn from killing an enemy unit.  At the end of any battle round you gain Pact points equal to how many kills you pledged to Slaanesh.  If you fail to get your pledge amount your warlord takes d3 mortal wounds. The rules you gain depend on your warlord staying alive but all of them are pretty brutal.

These first pact points gives you a reroll hit of 1’s for all attacks.  That is all attacks which includes shooting and melee.  The next one is at 3 Pact points and it grants your army a reroll wound rolls of 1 for your attacks.  Both of these together are pretty dang good and only getting those two really pushes your army.  But wait – there are more you can get.  If you hit 5 Pact points all your melee weapons gain Lethal Hits and Sustain Hits 1.  That is pretty spicy as it basically combos the rules from Peerless Bladesmen with reroll hits of 1 and wounds of 1.  On 7 Pact points you units now critical hit on a 5+ which would hit both your melee and your shooting especially when combining with some of the HQ choices and Noise Marines.

Stratagems & Enhancements

Beyond just a pretty awesome set of rules you also have access to some powerful Stratagems and Enhancments.  The two interesting Enhancements are Pledge of Eternal Servitude for your warlord as it lets them stand back up with a passed leadership test on d6 wounds.  It is very helpful to let you get to level 3-4 of your Pact level.  The other enhancement is Pledge of Unholy Fortune that lets you flip a hit, wound or saving throw to a 6 once per turn.

The stratagems are very good too.  You have a pile of protection options to use one your units.  Protection of the Dark Prince is a 1CP FNP for reg attacks and a 4+ for Mortal wounds.  Embrace the Pain lets you take all the damage on an infantry unit when you have multiple units in engagement range.  You get a reroll close combat attacks in Martial Perfection which can help you get those Pact points.  You can add to your pledge if you’ve killed a bit more for 1CP with Unbound Arrogance.  Finally you get an Armor of Contempt in Armour of Abhorrence for 1CP as well.

All of this lets you create a really mean army that just gets better doing its job – killing your opponent.  I get the feeling you could go hard on Daemon Prince side and just wreck stuff as needed.  You are also running a bunch of Noise Marines in Rhinos as well and you have a pretty rough little army.

Coterie of the Conceited aka Jerks for Slaanesh Tactics

This is a pretty simple list with a ton of stuff, units that can tank damage for friends in the Exultants, a bunch of crazy guys, and even some shooting.  I love the idea you can really cram a bunch of stuff into Rhinos too and just get at it.  The best thing is that you don’t need a ton of more stuff beyond the starter box, a few extra guys, and then some Rhinos.  Oh and 3 Daemon Princes but any Chaos player should have a bunch of those sitting around your hobby shelves.
