The Ossiarch Bonereapers are getting their Ghyran rules update. The disciplined undead are ready to march to war!

When the reformed undead legions of the Ossiarch Bonereapers go to war, they bring a single-mindedness to the battle. They are generally considered the most military-minded of the Undead because of that fact. They have a relentless discipline in battle that few can match. That’s why I’m excited to see what their two new battle formations bring. Those, along with three new spells and two more alternate warscrolls, are what we’re going to cover today!

“Have you come to pay the bone tithe? You have? Good, good. It won’t cost an arm and a leg. Just our little joke. Why are you crying? It’s not worth losing your head over. Unless you want to, of course. That can be arranged.”

Scourge of Ghyran – Ossiarch Bonereapers Battle Formations

First up, we’ve got the new battle formations for the Ossiarch Bonereapers. Tithe Guard allows for even more repairs to happen to Ossiarch Bonereaper units. It allows for up to 3 units a chance to get a few more slain models back in the unit or damage healed up.

The other battle formation is Hekatos Drillmasters. With the Disciplined Hekatoi ability, you can choose which of the four options best fits your needs. A target unit will gain one of the four options until your next turn. Personally, I like the +1 wound rolls or the Anti-Charge (+1 Rend) option. Those could really turn a unit into a blender for a round. Then again, sometimes you need that extra protection from a +5 Ward, or you might want to improve your odds of a charge. Versatility is the name of the game here!

Scourge of Ghyran – Ossiarch Bonereapers Spell Lore

With this excursion to the Realm of Life, the Ossiarch Bonereapers are bringing a new spell lore with them. Lore of Necrotheurgy provides three new spells to try out. Each of them goes off with a cast roll of +5. Bolster Creation grants a unit a damage-soak ability to ignore the first point of damage allocated to them in each phase.

Invigorate the Ranks is probably my favorite fo the three. It simply adds +1 to the attack characteristics of a target’s melee weapons. And finally, the Soul-Claim is a combo of damage to an enemy and a possible heal to a friendly unit. Again, all of them have their uses. Bolster Creation is also an unlimited spell, too.

Scourge of Ghyran – Ossiarch Bonereapers Warscrolls

Once again, there are two new alternate warscrolls to try out. The first we have is for the Mortisan Boneshaper. Its alternate powers include Legion Quartermaster, which allows them to boost Rally rolls for a unit. It’s an extra 3 dice to the Rally roll, which is pretty …okay. Their second ability is more interesting to me.

For 1 Command Point in the hero phase, you can use the Boneshaper ability to bring back a Mortek Guard unit that has been destroyed. Now, keep in mind that it’s only half as strong, and they have to be more than 9″ away from enemy units. But still. That could be a nice way to reinforce your ranks! Speaking of the Mortek Guard…

They are the other warscroll update from Ghyran. Their ability got swapped out to the new Shields of the Legion. This one basically turns them into a pseudo bodyguard unit. While they can’t soak hits for other targets, they do reduce the Rend of attacks targeting those eligible units. Your warmachines will thank you for that!

As a person who has an Ossiarch Bonereaper army, I’m curious to see how these play out. I’m not 100% sold on all of these new toys to try. That said, at least it will spice things up a bit. Playing the same list all the time can get stale.  Trying out these new options will force me to change things up. Hopefully, I’ll learn a thing or two in the process.

I wonder if the Ossiarch Bonereapers march in silence or if they have cadences they “sing” when they go to war. Either way it would be super creepy.
