A fascinating snapshot of late ’80s and early ’90s sci-fi cyberpunk multimedia—brought to you by none other than William Shatner (well, kind of). He once said he wanted to combine elements of Star Trek and T.J. Hooker.
The early ’90s, for me, were all about Star Trek, Babylon 5, and TekWar. I was obsessed with William Shatner, like any good Trekkie worth their salt. When TekWar came out, I tried reading the books and made sure to watch the TV movies. I wasn’t overwhelmed by it, but I enjoyed it.
A few years ago, I reread the first two books and rewatched some clips of the movies on YouTube. People often make fun of it as a celebrity cash grab. I know I’m wearing thick nostalgia glasses, but I’ve read worse books and seen worse movies and shows—way worse, in fact.

TekWar Novels
The novels are still available with updated covers and even audiobook versions.
New TekWar
It seems no property is being left untouched in this era. A new TekWar project is in development.
William Shatner’s TekWar Documentary
The documentary below is well done and thorough. It rightly highlights the odd vision of future technology—basically the ’80s with a few technobabble terms thrown in. I never even knew there was a video game.
