Monday, July 21st, you got your first sneak-peek at one of the hero archetypes for the Origin Edition playtest for Mutants & Masterminds fourth edition with the Mystic. In the remaining days leading up to the release of the Origin Edition during Gen Con, let’s look at the remaining archetypes: Today it’s the Battlesuit and the Blaster.
The Battlesuit archetype was initially a type of Gadgeteer in the alpha playtest, but feedback said that buried the archetype a bit and it deserved more of a chance to shine, so we shifted it back to its own archetype as in third edition. The archetype is fairly straightforward compared to some, although it does have customization options. Note that we try to provide “Quick Pick” choices in places where they’d be useful for players who really want to jump right into playing.
The Blaster is the classic ranged combatant superhero: a flying character able to throw a variety of ranged attacks. Because of their emphasis on range, the archetype takes advantage of the Ranged Attack and Ranged Defense advantages, saving some points, but making them less effective in close combat. Fortunately, they have their Energy Aura to fall back on there.
