The Kharadron Overlords have a new Spearhead box. But should you snag it or the Regiment of Renown? Why not both?!

With two new boxes out for pre-order and arriving this weekend to shelves the Kharadron Overlords have a pair of good deals. Which one is better? What sort of a deal are we even getting? And is it worth getting both? Let’s take a dive into their new offerings and find out. Now, I’ve already run the numbers on the Kharadron Overlords Spearhead. I’m including that below for reference.

Kharadron Overlords Spearhead Pricing Breakdown

Contents

1x Endrinmaster with Dirigible Suit $42

5x Grundstok Thunderers $58

1x Grundtsok Gunhauler $65

3x Endrinriggers (which can alternatively be built as Skywardens) $58

Total Individual MSRP: $223

Total Savings: $78

This being a Spearhead box, the discounts are in line with what we’ve seen with those offerings. Saving $78 is more than the Gunhauler that’s included which is a nice bonus just for getting units you’ll likely use. Now, is this box worth getting two copies of? That’s really going to depend on if you’re planning on doubling up on any of these units. I’m not seeing any restrictions on that and the only unit I’d really question the usefulness of is a second Endrinmaster with Dirigible Suit. But that’s up to personal preference. So yeah, I could see getting a second copy. But there might be a better option…

Drekki’s Privateers Pricing Breakdown

1x Drekki Flynt $37

1x Arkanaut Frigate $92

10x Arkanaut Company $60

Total Individual MSRP: $189

Total Savings: $49

Okay, so the savings on this bundle isn’t as deep as some of the other options. But this is also a limited run of a Regiment of Renown. It’s currently still in stock (on the US warhammer.com website) for now. For new Kharadron Overlord players this is one worth considering. You’re basically getting Drekki Flynt tossed in with a couple other units that you’ll likely want in your collection. You could also run this as just a Regiment of Renown — but that’s only if you are looking to ally this Regiment as a whole into other armies.

Anyhow, regardless if you want to use this as a Regiment or Renown or not, all the units included are still usable on their own inside a Kharadron Overlord army. And because it’s got a unique character, you really don’t need more than one copy. If you’re a new player to KO, then snagging this plus the Spearhead is going to net you a nice core of units to build from. There’s no overlap between boxes and you’ll be able to run all of these units together just fine. Get a few games under your belt, see what you like, and then expand further.

Which Box To Snag?

So if you only have to pick one you can really opt for either. If you’re going purely based on $$$ savings, the Spearhead is a better deal. Spearhead games are also a lot of fun and give you a pretty good taste of what the army is like once you grow your force into a larger size. Because of the value and the fact that Spearhead games exist, I’d tend to lean towards that. However, the Regiment of Renown is perfect for folks who also have other Order armies. Maybe you just want to sprinkle in some KO with your Sigmarites. That’s exactly what that box is for. So I can see a case either way. It’s really going to come down to what your goals are with your purchase.

Still — if you’re new, get both. You can’t go wrong with that.

The Kharadron Overlords are officially landing in stores this weekend. Is it time to start a new sky-pirate army!?
