For the next ten-ish days, horrors beyond your imagining are on sale at DriveThruRPG as part of the Cosmic Horror RPG sale.

As the summer winds to a close, and the days start their inevitable creep towards the encroaching darkness of a long, cold night, DriveThruRPG invites us all to celebrate with a Cosmic Horror sale. And even if you don’t feel a creeping sense of existential dread in your day to day life, it’s still a pretty good deal.

You can save on titles like Call of Cthulhu or the ALIEN RPG or even pick up classic adventure-y titles like Monster of the Week or indie titles like Across a Thousand Dead Worlds. If it has spooky vibes, you’ll probably find it on sale this week (and a few days of next week).

DriveThruRPG’s Cosmic Horror Sale

Cosmic horror and RPGs get along extremely well. There’s just something about the personal experience of it that invites you to get both the heebies and the jeebies. Plus you get to get creeped out alongside your friends. Which we all love.

And the Cosmic Horror Sale is your chance to get a variety of titles, big and small, at a discount. You really will find a ton here. Whatever flavor of cosmic horror you happen to enjoy, it awaits you. Like a tentacled treat that reminds you just how insignificant a speck we are in the eye of the universe.

You can find a full list of titles at the link at the end of this article. But here are a few of our faves at the DriveThruRPG Cosmic Horror Sale

Games Included:

  • ALIEN RPG – This is the classic RPG set in the universe of ALIEN. Sure, xenomorphs are a terrifying threaat, but the real killer is capitalism (it usually is). And that’s not me being glib – more harm has been done in that world by the actions/inactions of Weyland-Yutani than anything else.
  • Call of Cthulhu – There are a ton of options here. You can start with Pulp Cthulhu, but there’s other titles, including Cults of Cthulhu and the Malleus Monstrorum. If you play in this system, this sale is a perfect way to round out your collection.
  • Old Gods of Appalachia – Folk horror at its finest, this RPG uses the Cypher System to sink you into a world where the woods are dark and menacing. It’s set in the world of the award-winning podcast of the same name; if you’re looking for something beyond just “hey space and tentacles are scary” this is a great place to start.
  • Monster of the Week – I can’t say enough good things about Monster of the Week. It’s probably one of the most immediately graspable Powered-by-the-Apocalypse RPGs out there. You make a team of people who have prime-time adventures straight out of your favorite tv shows, while dealing with monsters and mayhem.
  • Across a Thousand Dead Worlds – What a title. This is pure space horror served up rich and dark and terrifying. You want to feel that aching loneliness, the emptiness that exists between stars, this game has you covered. It has you exploring ancient “abandoned” alien vessels to try and find resources for your company masters. What could go wrong?

All This & More Awaits You

The Cosmic Horror RPG sale only running for the next ten days and a handful of hours (at press time). But that’s plenty of time to find something, get excited about it, and then—the hard part—convince your friends to play it with you. It’s all just in time to get ready for the spooky season.

You can find the full sale (which has almost 3,000 titles in it) at the link below!

Space bad. Woods bad. New England town bad. The lesson of these games is no matter where you go, there’s no escaping the horrors!
