Mantic Games has a brand new Kickstarter for Assassin Creed Animus – The Board Game that’s live today. And the goal has already been hit!
Well that didn’t take long! The funding goal for the new Assassin Creed Animus – The Board Game from Mantic’s Kickstarter has been reached. Now it’s just a matter of how high will this one go?
Assassin Creed Animus – The Board Game Now Live On Kickstarter
If you just want to cut to the chase, you can check out the Kickstarter right HERE. However, if you’re like me you might be wondering what exactly is this game all about. So far all we’ve seen has been a few teasers and images from the game. We know that 2-4 players are going to take on the role of Assassins throughout various points in time. That’s in part due to the technology of the Animus which …I’m not going to get into here. It’s basically a way to experience “genetic memories” from your ancestors. Go read the game lore for more info.
ANYHOW, if you’re a fan of the franchise you know all this stuff already. The board game takes a lot of those concepts and reframes them for players to experience in a new way. What if you just want to know how it works? Good news, there’s a video for that:
Or maybe you can’t watch the video right at this moment. How about a look at the rules? Because there’s a PDF you can download right now to read them! Personally, I haven’t gotten a chance to fully digest these rules yet. But so far it seems way more interactive than I initially thought. There’s more strategy than just going after your own targets as fast as possible. There’s also multiple ways the game can end.
Ultimately it’s a game about getting your score as high as possible — but you have to be mindful of your desync tokens, too. Those will lower your score and at the end of the game the highest score wins.
Again, you can read the rules for yourself. Overall, I think there’s going to be a comparison to the Disney Villainous series. I can see why as the player boards certainly appear to have an asymmetrical design to them. But what’s interesting is that each player is still trying to assassinate their targets — so you basically have the same goals. But the difference is that there are various challenges and targets that are unique to each Assassin.
Gameplay aside, this is a Kickstarter project. The game has already hit the funding goal so that’s a plus. There are more stretch goals ready to be unlocked as well. Above you can see an estimate project timeline. It’s looking like fulfilment should be landing next August/September. As with all Kickstarters there are risks and challenges. However, this is also being run by Mantic Games and they’ve done this once or twice before. And not just Kickstarters, but managing licensed properties. There’s a little game called Halo: Flashpoint you might have heard of…
The Kickstarter for Assassin’s Creed Animus – The Board Game ends on September 10, 2025. Get in while you can!
