The Salamanders are getting a new Combat Patrol and are also getting a new detachment to bring to the tabletop.

Things are about to heat-up on the 40k front. The Salamanders are on the way with a new Combat Patrol (we did a pricing breakdown for it already). On top of that, they are also getting a new detachment with new rules to try out as well.

“The Forgefather of the Salamanders is a roving questor, endlessly searching the galaxy for the lost relics of Vulkan, and when enemy forces stand in his way he musters the might of his Chapter to put them to the torch. This specialised assault force is now yours to command with the Forgefather’s Seekers Detachment, while you can set smaller battlefields alight with the upcoming Combat Patrol: Salamanders.”

You can find the rules for the Combat Patrol: Salamanders – Pyroclasm Assault Force HERE. The rules for the Forgefather’s Seekers Detachment are HERE.

Salamanders Detachment – Forgefather’s Seekers

Kicking things off, let’s take a look at the new Forgefather’s Seekers. One thing to note here is that the detachment does require you to run Vulkan He’stan. That seems appropriate. Let’s see the main detachment rule.

Assault weapons in this detachment are going to be very deadly within 12″ as they get +1 strength to the attacks. Additionally, there’s also the Seeker’s Companion rule that grants each Infernus Squad the option to either perform an action even if they Advanced or shoot in a turn when they started an Action. That’s just a bonus to the action economy of the army and seems good overall.

“Likewise, three of the Enhancements return, while the new Immolator adds an extra shot to every Torrent weapon in the holder’s unit – perfect for full-size squads of Infernus Marines and Aggressors! “

On top of those additional/returning rules there’s also new stratagems to play around with. You can read them both above. I actually really like the Blazing Earth stratagem as it makes enemy charges less predictable. That -2 to their Charge Roll will make them second guess things for sure.

Combat Patrol – Pyroclast Assault Force

We’ve already gotten a look at the Pyroclast Assault Force before. At least the miniatures included. Now, we’re getting a taste of their new rules, too. Keep in mind that Combat Patrol does have it’s own special rules for these forces and that’s what the rules below are used for.

The Adrax player gets to choose which enhancement to use for the game. Honestly, this is kind of a tough call. I’d probably tend to lean towards Master of Flames just to be on the safe side but I can see Lord of the Pyroclasts coming in very handy.

Their stratagems really reflect their playstyle. The Salamanders in this Combat Patrol want to get up close and do their damage. These will help your units close the gap, survive, or retaliate. All things that a force with loads of melta and flame would want to do!

It’s a great time to dive in with the Salamanders as they are going to bring the heat!
