Engine 3, the SAGE issue

Available Now!

This past weekend we released the third issue of Engine: The AGE Roleplaying Magazine. This is a special one, folks, because it includes a new take on the Adventure Game Engine, designed by Steve Kenson with some additions from myself: SAGE, the Simple Adventure Game Engine!

This issue contains the Full Rules for SAGE, and four settings: everything a reasonably experienced roleplayer needs to run or play it, except dice and something to write in, just like a core rulebook. On top of that, we included four settings to get you started, as the SAGE rules are setting neutral:

  • Guardians of the Key, a cinematic sci-fi SAGE setting where heroes wield ancient artifacts to liberate worlds from a secret Autocracy.
  • The Half Moon Department, where agents who transcend the realms of mortals, shades, and spirits solve crimes that cross supernatural boundaries.
  • Zarat Adventures, in a volcano-scarred land where heroes win no crowns, and honor is the only currency.
  • Transmigration, where an ecological apocalypse provides a strange form of liberation.

This issue wraps up with guidelines on converting between standard AGE games such as Fantasy AGE or The Expanse and the SAGE rules.

But you don’t have to rely on this post alone for information. We recorded the release event, where we go through the issue in detail!
