We have new points, but here’s what the smart money says to expect in the next 40K 10th Edition Balance Dataslate – coming soon!
You don’t thought the quick points update is all that is going to happen to 40K 10th Edition this Fall? There is no way we won’t have a big update hitting later in September. It matches up with the updates we have had in the past and hopefully it will be a nice shift to things. I think the points that GW gave us helped bring some things down but there are a lot of things left behind that needs to be brought up a bit. Let’s take out Loc-Nar and see if it doesn’t just take my soul and give me some thoughts into what might be coming down the pipeline
Imperial & Chaos Knights
First let’s look at the top. I don’t think will see any Imperial Knight changes as their book should be out by then which will hopefully bring things in line with the current thoughts on the game. This would be the same with Chaos Knights as while their book is new the points shifted things a lot and their rules feel fine for the game at hand. I don’t think will see a change to them unless the rest of the year is just full of Knights wrecking things.
Death Guard
With the Knight talk out of the way what about the Death Guard? I really don’t know as the two “good” detachments feel fine for the most part. The point changes hit Mortarion’s Hammer pretty hard which brings them down and will have to wait and see if the other parts hit the game too hard. Their rules are good but they don’t feel busted. I think it is just the question of how many Death Guard units is too many on the table top and this first attack on the points will take a bit to answer if it was enough.
Middle of the Pack
The other two latest releases, League of Votann & Grey Knights will probably have no tweaks beyond points if GW wants too. Thousand Sons continues to be a powerful army that is hard to play. They might see some points on things that are too cheap but right now it feels ok. This is the same with World Eaters as we have seen some success and would rather have some points tweaked on things that feel too expensive. I would say the same with some of the Emperor’s Children things too but will talk about that next.
Emperor’s Children
I wonder if this release will give us a bunch of new “Chaos Space Marine” stuff that becomes Emperor’s Children. I could see an easy add of a Forgefiend and a Helbrute to help fill in with some shooting options. It just feels like a “duh” add on that a Dataslate could easily add to help things out. I don’t think they need the whole suite of things like Predators and Vindicators but it would help to just fill in some of the Daemon side of things that they already have half of.
Space Marines & Supplements
Also how much do you want to bet Space Marines take a sideways hit and then a bonus on one of the supplements? The Black Templars and Space Wolves feel too new to add things too but what about Blood Angels or Dark Angels? I think the armies’ rules are pretty good right now but they always want to see their poster kids do well in events so maybe they push the two Angels armies. It might make them strong enough that I actually do well with my Blood Angels army I painted up last year. I don’t think the other main Marine armies are going to get a push as the new Characters are coming and will bring updates that could be good. We’ll just have to wait to see.
Orks
I really hope we see Orks get some help but I am not sure how much they will do. The Orks went from breaking the game to getting kicked down to the ground. I wonder if something interesting for the WAAAGH is to give their Characters the ability to always put their “unit” into the WAAAGH. Would this be too powerful or make them just into a Hero Hammer sort of thing? It is an interesting thought to push them into utilizing Leaders to help amplify their army. It would also make things like Mega Nobz pretty annoying too but that simple change would be cool.
Adeptus Mechanicus
The Ad-mech need some love, but I have no idea about whay GW should do, as they shifted the army completely, changed weapons etc, and while it is ok it is still an army that is so expensive to buy that it makes it hard to really see it pushed. I worry amplifying them more on their weapons could make them too strong or if just another method on how you want the army to work. If you have an idea go ahead and comment away.
What other armies need help? I think will see this as some new detachments to help cover some “fluff” holes they feel is needed for their armies. I wonder if will see an Admech one to help shift things a bit, maybe a new Ork Waagh or Prophet idea, and I bet some new fun combo one utilizing maybe Daemons with Knights or other shifts. It is an interesting one for sure and will see how much this shifts the Meta.
