Angela and Daredevil are confirmed to be coming to Marvel Rivals. But Daredevil isn’t who you think. Time to nerd out over Marvel again.

I’ve been on a Marvel kick thanks to both Marvel: Crisis Protocol and Marvel Rivals. There’s a lot of bleed over between the two properties in terms of characters. I’ve been getting inspired to paint up the characters that exist in both properties.

Now I’ve got two more to add to my list: Daredevil and Angela. Good thing I’m already ahead of that curve. But before we get into it, here’s the trailer for season four:

Angela, The Hunter

Angela’s history IRL is actually a lot more complicated than it is in the comics. There were rights issues and I’m not going to go over all that legal stuff. But it’s an interesting read if you’re into that. Anyhow, in Marvel, she’s the daughter of Odin but she was “killed” as an infant during the Asgardian war with the Angels of the Tenth Realm (aka Heven). But it turns out she wasn’t dead and was raised in Heven to become a great warrior.

I don’t know how much of that backstory is going to be applicable in Marvel Rivals but I’m excited to find out. That’s also why she’s getting a fast track to my painting table for MCP! I was lucky to scoop her up a while back. The good news is she’s back in print thanks to the Warriors of Asgard Affiliation Pack.

Devil of the Eighth City

Okay, so this is a little confusing. The character coming to Marvel Rivals is Daredevil…sort of. Much like Iron Fist, this isn’t the same character you think it is. The real story is a tad more complicated but it’s tied to the lore that’s been written for Marvel Rivals. If you read the description of the video, you can see what I mean:

“The Timestream Entanglement has drawn the Seven Capitals together, forming the Heart of Heaven. After Knull’s fall, Hela is imprisoned in the An’Hay-Zhidi, where Dizang—Devil of the Eighth City—dares her to atone for her sins. But Angela will not forgive her betrayal. She arrives in the Heart of Heaven demanding Hela be handed over, yet its guardian refuses to surrender someone under his protection. Justice will be served and a debt will be paid.”

So this “Daredevil” isn’t Matt Murdock. This is Dizang, Devil of the Eighth City. That also explains the more Asian-inspired armor of Daredevil’s design. It’s very different than Matt Murdock, and no, the Eighth City is not NYC (or in Hell’s Kitchen).

That said, I’m still excited to see Daredevil added to the game. Netease has permission from Marvel to make new characters or even give existing characters a twist as in this case. I’m sure there’s lots of lawyers working behind the scenes and a complicated approval process between the two companies…but that’s not really the point. We’re getting a version of Daredevil in Marvel Rivals and I’m cool with that. And if you want to play him on the tabletop you can snag him in the new Defenders Affiliation Pack.

Plus, I already had him painted so…really it’s just Angela on deck for my Marvel Rivals painting project next.

Oh man…I’m excited to get these two characters on the tabletop and in Marvel Rivals!
