Starfinder’s newly revealed Galactic Ancestries wants you to unleash your inner alien, but in a metaphorical way, not a chestburster one.
I mean, I dunno, maybe Galactic Ancestries, the upcoming book chock full of 21 brand new playable aliens for Starfinder 2E will feature some kind of xenomorph type chestburster. Some of the aliens you can play as are already out there. And the new book looks to take that even further. But I don’t think we have playable xenomorphs just yet.
Still, Galactic Ancestries is exactly the kind of expansion Starfinder 2E needs. The new edition has doubled down on the sci-fantasy weirdness that makes the Pact Worlds really stand out. So I’m here for whatever else they have in mind. Especially since, like the Alien Core before it, Paizo plans to revisit Pathfinder classics in it.
Starfinder 2E – Galactic Ancestries
I mean, Pathfinder goblins but in space is a pretty huge sell. And that’s only one aspect of it. Within the 224 pages of the upcoming new book you’ll find all sorts of weird and wild examples of species you can play as. As mentioned there are 21 brand new options, and a host of returning favorites.
You’ll find expanded options for beings like the Vesk and Shirren, as well as Starfinder updates for classic Pathfinder ancestries. The blurb for this book calls out elves, gnomes, and goblins specifically. But I would bet you money that there’s more than just those three within.
“This 224-page rulebook is packed full of playable alien ancestries for Starfinder Second Edition games, including 21 brand new options like the lucky blue worlanisi, sentient rollerball bantrid, or even a blazing miniature sun called a novian. In addition to this intergalactic cast of science-fantasy species are a host of stellar options for familiar ancestries, including Starfinder favorites like reptilian vesk and inesctoid shirrens, and fantasy classics like gnomes, elves, and goblins in space!
On top of that, the brand new Gap-touched versatile heritage connects players to the history-breaking event at the heart of the Starfinder setting while giving them special abilities, and the xenometric android allows readers to create robotic versions of any Starfinder alien, not just humans!”
As you can see, there’s a lot to get into with the upcoming book. Though you will have to wait. As of press time, the release date for Galactic Ancestries isn’t until April 2026. Hopefully that stays on target. It’s not a bad schedule of releases, considering the full core set only just came out a month or two ago. At any rate, Starfinder 2E is off to a brilliant start.
Now all that remains is to dream about the alien weirdos you can play.
Look for Galactic Ancestries in April, 2026!
