Atomic Mass Games has done a great job picking characters for Marvel: Crisis Protocol. But here’s a few curveballs I’d like to see added!
The Ministravaganza reveals have me excited for the future of Marvel: Crisis Protocol. There were some pretty deep cut characters and I’m glad to see AMG reaching for them. I never thought I’d see the Orb make his way to the tabletop!
That said, I also saw this as a bit of a challenge. Could I find some more obscure characters to add to the roster? Surely, there’s hundreds of Marvel Characters…this should be easy! But then I had to ask myself “wait, what do I mean by obscure?” And that’s when I decided to limit my selection to characters that mainstream audiences probably wouldn’t know right off the bat. You might disagree with some of these picks, but I’m going based on these characters never appearing in the MCU — that means no live action Marvel movies or TV shows. And yes, I’m including the Fox Movies (X-Men) and the Sony Movies (Spider-Verse), too. I’m not counting cartoons because lots of characters have popped up in cameos over the years and I’m really not sure when to apply a cutoff to those.
With that said let’s get to my list of obscure characters I’d like to see added to Marvel: Crisis Protocol!
Wendigo
Wendigo is not just a legend of the Algonquian peoples, it’s also a recurring character in Marvel Comics. In the comics, Wendigo isn’t one specific person but rather a curse that can be put on anyone that commits cannibalism. Typically this act is done in the Northern parts of Canada — which is the reason we see Wendigo show up in a Hulk comic along side Wolverine’s first appearance. ANYHOW, I think having Wendigo show up in MCP is long overdue.
Rick Jones
I know I’ve mentioned A-Bomb (Rick Jones) before. But Rick has had a really long career in Marvel Comics. He basically started as the Hulk’s Teen Sidekick but over time he’s had plenty of his own crazy adventures. He’s been linked to the Avengers, Captain Mar-Vell, Spaceknight Rom, and even more characters. Most recently, Rick has become the host of the symbiote Sleeper as part of the All-New Venom storyline. So yeah… there’s plenty of options for a Rick Jones character to be added to the tabletop.
Night Thrasher
Oh boy…no character gives me more Extreme 90’s Nostalgia than Night Thrasher. While his first appearance was technically in December of 1989, this character screamed 90s. Why? Because this dude used to use a Skateboard to fight crime. He’s also a founding member of the New Warriors — probably one of the most 90’s groups of heroes to EVER team up. ANYHOW, Night Thrasher is really just a dude with a lot of training, money, and some cool gadgets.
Also, while researching to see if he’d been in a live action MCU production, he was supposed to make an appearance! Unfortunately, the TV show didn’t work out and was cancelled. So I’m going to say that he’s still relatively unknown to the majority mainstream audience out there.
Grim Reaper
Grim Reaper isn’t exactly mainstream (yet). However, a lot of arcade kids from the 90’s will recognize him from a certain beat’em up arcade game. Anyhow, this Scythe-handed villain often battled with the Avengers. He’s also the brother of Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man, who’s getting a movie. But as for now, I’m still going to say that Grim Reaper is still a relatively obscure character. So I’m all for him getting added to MCP. I think we need MORE villains added to the game anyhow.
Madame Webb
Man! I really can’t believe they haven’t had a Madame Web appearance in the MCU yet. She’s such an interesting character with the whole web of fate thing and her interactions with Spider-Man. Especially with all the multi-verse stuff going on. I’m really surprised they haven’t figured out a way to work her story into a TV or movie. I’m sure there’s a good way to do that, right? Oh well, I’m sure when they make that movie there’s no possible way they will screw that up…
ANYHOW, I think Madame Web could be a neat character to have in MCP. She’s GOT to give out re-rolls or something though. And if her character model is not blind and on the weird web chair we’re gonna riot!
(Yes, I know there’s a Madame Web movie. I didn’t watch it. Based on the box office performance, critic score, and audience score, I doubt you watched it either. So let’s just pretend it didn’t happen, okay?)
