The Big Four Chaos Space Marine Legions need some love. Here’s a few suggestions I have for Warhammer 40,000.

With the new Iron Warriors teaser and the Red Corsairs getting new stuff I got to thinking about the Big Four CSM Legions: World Eaters, Death Guard, Thousand Sons, and Emperor’s Children. While they all have their own Daemon Primarchs now, full army releases, and even a few unique/specialist units I think there’s still room for expansion. So here’s a few ideas I’ve been kicking around. Some of these are based on the Horus Heresy while others came from a different direction.

World Eaters – Red Butcher Terminators

I know the Horus Heresy popularized this idea/unit with the Red Butchers getting a resin unit release. However, for me personally, I think back to my earliest days of playing 40k and the 2nd Edition Khorne Terminators.

If you know, you know. Anyhow, these guys were feared for their crazy armor save and deadliness on the tabletop. But for me, it the look of the Terminators with the massive Khorne “bunny ears” on their models. I’ll never for get it and I hope that GW brings them back one day as modern plastic “Red Butchers” Khorne Terminator kit!

Death Guard – Alchem-Flamers

Alchem Weapons were a class of weapons that the Death Guard used during the Horus Heresy.

According to the Lexicanum:

The history of Alchem Weapons goes back to the Great Crusade, when Mortarion allowed his Legion to make free use of a number of forbidden weapons. The most common of these were various toxic compounds which they deployed in place of more common Promethium gel as ammunition for Flame Weapons. These compounds could reduce flesh to a rancid slurry in moments, but were also known to corrode the weapons which deployed them as well.

Maybe over the course of the 10,000 years between the Horus Heresy and modern 40k, they changed things up a bit. I could see a unit of 5-10 Plague Marines with Alchem Weapons or some other sort of Bio-flamer type weapon. I know that the Death Guard already has these types of guns on their various Daemon Engines/War Machines. And there’s a few units with a plague spewer or two in them. But I’m saying bring on a full squad of them. If they used these forbidden weapons when they were “loyal” why wouldn’t they use them now that they are buddy-buddy with daemons?

Thousand Sons – Castellex Automata Units

The use of Castellax Automata in the Thousand Sons was well known. They didn’t shy away from these automata in their armies and I think they should still have some running around. I think the Sekhetar Robots are a nod to this aspect of their army. If the modern 40k Thousand Sons have them, surely there’s a couple twisted Castellax running around somewhere, right? Shoot, even if they did all get destroyed, I just want more giant robots in the game, okay?

Emperor’s Children – Snake Dudes

Look, I don’t know what to call them. I’m just super surprised we don’t already have this unit in the game. With the release of Fulgrim as a Daemon Primarch, how did we not get a special unit of Emperor’s Children with Snake-bodies? And yes, this is a terrible MS Paint-job of the top half of a Flawless Blade super imposed on a Daughter of Khaine Blood Sister. But you can’t tell me that the concept doesn’t work. So c’mon GW — where are the Emperor’s Children Snake Dudes at?!

What units special units would you like the Big Four Chaos Space Marine Armies to get in the future?

Why did it have to be snakes?!
