It is time for the next Campaign Expansion for Warhammer 40K. That Means The Maelstrom, new minis, and more!
Next week’s pre-order releases signal a new leap forward as events in the 40K galaxy unfurl. Just as they did in 500 Worlds: Titus, now the story shifts with the upcoming release of The Maelstrom, a story all about Huron Blackheart and the Red Corsairs (with a few Aeldari joining in for fun). Alongside that, new miniatures, including Huron Blackheart himself, two new Battleforce Boxes, and two new Maelstrom battalions. Let’s check ’em out!
Warhammer Next Week: Unleash The Maelstrom
It all kicks off with The Maelstrom. This new set of four booklets gets you everything you need for the newest chapter in 40K’s unfurling conflict. Lair of The Tyrant gets you up to speed on Huron’s campaign. Crucible of Champions has new narrative rules – including ones for making your own custom 40K characters (which I am all about), in Raid and Ruin you get a new piratical campaign system, and in the Detachments booklet, you get detachments, go figure.
Then of course, there’s Huron Blackheart and the Masters of the Maelstrom, which is as He-Man I’ve ever seen 40K get. Only instead of Battlecat and Man-at-Arms, you get a Barghesi pup named Plunder and an Enforcer, Captain Sargotta, Garreon the Corpsemaster, Katar Garrix, and Garlon Souleater. Along with Huron, of course.
Then of course there are the two new Battleforce boxes. First up, Lords of the Maelstrom, which gives you a bunch of Red Corsairs in the form of 10 new Red Corsairs Raiders, a multi-part Reave Captain, 10 Chaos Space Marine Legionaries, 10 Traitor Guard, 5 Chaos Terminators, and a Red Corsairs upgrade set.
One of the big opposing forces in The Maelstrom is a fleet of Aeldari Corsairs. In the Eldritch Raiders Battleforce kit, you get a whole bunch of them, led by Prince Yriel of Iyanden. Accompanying the prince with all new mini, are 10 Corsair Skyreavers, 10 Corsair Voidreavers (or Voidscarred), a Starfang/Vyper, and Void Dreamer Kharseth.
There are two new Lair of the Tyrant Battalions. First up a Drukhari raider Battalion box, which gets you a Succubus, 2 Venoms, 3 Reaver Jetbikes, 5 Hellions, and 10 Wyches.
Of if you prefer your miniatures a little more squat, you can grab the new Leagues of Voltan Battalion Box, which includes a Memnyr Strategist leading a gang of 3 Hernkyn Pioneers, and 6 Ironkin Steeljacks.
