It’s time to send in the clones because they have a tank to back them up! Star Wars: Legion, here comes the TX-130 Saber Tank!

Earlier this week I got a chance to check out the AAT which is the new Separatist Alliance (aka Droid Army) tank. Well today it’s time to check out the Clones new tank. Say hello to the TX-130 Saber-Class Tank! A big thanks to Atomic Mass Games for sending me a review copy for this one. I unboxed this kit and had a chance to put it together, so let’s see what it’s packing.

I’ve always liked the look of the Galactic Republic Era Clones so I was excited to put this one together.

TX-130 Saber Tank Unboxed

Popping the box on this one we can see all the contents in their typical AMG baggies. The sprues are in one bag, the base is in another, and there’s also a clear plastic stand for the tank to “hover” on as well. But more on that below…

Next up, we’ve got the cards!

You can see the cards above. The TX-130 clocks in at 155 points base so it’s a chunk of points. You’ve also got various upgrades and options with a couple of different unique characters you can have in the tank. You can read more about the specifics of the tank here if you’re interested. I like the fact that you can upgrade the weapons to really take advantage of that Arsenal 2. That could be one of the turret options or Ordnance cards. That’s also reflected in the build options.

Speaking of options it’s time to see those sprues.

There’s loads of bits on sprue here. Notice you’ve got the option for a crewmember to stand in the hatch to man the turret weapon. You can also build this kit with or without the missiles on the sides. Additionally, the turret itself comes with both the Beam or Twin Laser options. Theoretically, you could magnetize those to swap them around…but I’m not that good with magnets. So how did I end up building it and what did I think? Let’s get into that next.

Meet The TX-130 Saber-Class Tank

This was a fun build overall. As mentioned there’s loads of options to choose from when building. I didn’t really have a plan for assembly so I was just going based on what I though looked cool. The Heavy Laser Cannons up top are not fixed. You can rotate those. The “blades” on the side of the hull are also not fixed. In fact, they sorta of “flop” on the sides thanks to some clever design.

Speaking of design, even if you’re an experienced hobby builder, you’re going to want to check out the actual build instructions. There are a few parts that need to be placed inside of other parts that will be glued shut. So before you seal things, make sure you’re following the instructions (or at least the correct steps) in order.

Here you can see the Heavy Laser Cannons point off into the air. I just wanted to showcase that, yes, they do move.

Here’s a look at the Saber off of it’s base. You can see the clear plastic stand and also the way the side blades are at a different angle — again, that’s becuase they move.

Oh and here’s a look at the back. I love the little details on this kit like the tow-hooks and extra panels details. Also, this shot shows off the rear fin-blades that also move and can be positioned independently. Again, this was a neat kit to build. I did have one of the antenna break off right before I was taking pictures. I’m going to chalk that up to user error though.

I didn’t find this kit overly complicated to build. But my biggest piece of advice for assembly is just follow the steps in order. I definetly got ahead of the build and had to “undo” some glue work. Thankfully, I caught it before it all set. So don’t make the same mistake! Take your time and follow the steps…

The TX-130 Saber Tank is currently out and available. Hopefully you can find it on store shelves because it’s out of stock from Asmodee directly.

Star Wars: Legion – TX-130 Saber Tank $69.99

A light repulsor tank as flexible as a starfighter, the TX-130 Saber-class fighter tank is agile and swift. It elegantly weaves across battlefields, slashing formations with a beam cannon or punching through armor with twin laser cannons. This expansion contains one TX-130 Saber-class Fighter Tank miniature, enough for 1 Heavy unit, as well as Unit and Upgrade Cards to support gameplay.

I’m really going to have to play a Clone army now aren’t I?
