The Night Lords are getting their very own Combat Patrol and we’re breaking down the pricing on this boxed set.
I’m glad to see that Games Workshop is investing in some of the other Chaos Space Marine Legions. The Night Lords got a fantastic Kill Team with the Nemesis Claw box. I was hoping to see more from GW later on. Now, we’re getting a Night Lords Combat Patrol and I’m excited to see it! That said, with a Combat Patrol price tag of $170, is this one worth getting? Let’s do the math and find out.
Night Lords Combat Patrol Pricing Breakdown
Contents
Chaos Lord with Jump Pack $43.50
Night Lords Upgrade Sprue (replaces standard Legionaries Upgrade Sprue)*
Total MSRP = $245.50
Total Savings = $75.50
*The Night Lords Upgrade Sprue is from the Nemesis Claw box as mentioned by GW. However, it’s replacing the regular CSM Legionaries upgrade sprue. I’m just using the price of the Nemesis Claw box as a reference price instead.
Overall, I do think is a nice CSM Combat Patrol and very appropriate for the Night Lords. Regardless of how you want to price out the Legionaries in the box, it’s still a good chunk of savings. For many, many versions of a CSM List, all the things in the box are going to be useful.
Should you buy two of them? Only if you’re planning on running double Chaos Lords with Jump Packs. I think that might be the only negative I can think of for this box. And that’s really not much of a negative.
What To Do Next? Let Chaos Reign
The Chaos Space Marine line is wide and vast. There’s loads of ways to build and play that army. Aside from the new Red Corsair stuff, there’s more in their Faction Pack to look at, too. You could opt for more traditional builds in the army or you could go super niche. I know there are some big stompy robots coming soon, too.
At this point in the edition, if you haven’t gotten your Codex, you might just want to wait until later this year. Or if you just want to dive in, that should have been your first purchase anyhow. From there the CSM army supports loads of different play-styles so you really need to ask yourself what you want to focus on.
For Night Lords specifically, I’ve always viewed them as the Jump Pack/high speed terror specialists. Raptors, Warp Talons, and Chosen all seem like natural fits in a Night Lords army. How you see this army might be different from my vision though. That’s something you’ll have to figure out for yourself.
But again, if you really want to stick with the Night Lords theme, I’d check out the Nightmare Hunt Detachment. It’s all about spreading that Terror on the tabletop in ways the Night Lords are very well suited for. Perhaps you start there and see where the chaos leads you.
I like this one because the Combat Patrol bleeds into this Detachment well. There’s obviously a lot of Heretic Astartes to tap for various abilities and stratagems. But in particular, the Chaos Lord with a Jump Pack and Warp Talons are key features here. I’d say point out a list with this Detachment in mind and see if it works for you!
How would you load-up your Night Lords army?
