Atomic Mass Games has a new Transmission about the upcoming Marvel: Crisis Protocol Alliances and we get questions answered.
I covered the big announcement from AMG for the upcoming game. I also had speculated about a few things in my excitement about the new board game based beat’em-up. Today, we’ve got a new studio Transmission that dives into a bit more of the details about the game. So let’s see what they have to say and also cover a few of the questions that have been answered inside.
Marvel: Crisis Protocol Alliances – Night of the Goblin is a “beat-em-up” miniatures board game that utilizes core rules familiar to any Marvel: Crisis Protocol player. Instead of a head-to-head battle, up to four players team up, each controlling one or more heroes as they work together to take down the Green Goblin and his forces. Success depends on coordination, with players combining powers and planning together to overcome the threat and secure victory. The box includes everything needed to play, including cards, tokens, dice, rules, a game board, and additional accessories, along with a large number of miniatures. Alongside the four heroes and the primary villain, players will face numerous enemy minions that serve as the Green Goblin’s supporting villainous force.
Marvel: Crisis Protocol Alliances – Questions Answered
One of the questions I know a lot of folks had were about the characters included in the box. Are they playable? Are they new versions or alternates? Are the “goons” going to be used in Marvel: Crisis Protocol also? Well I think this quote answers all of those things:
For fans of Marvel: Crisis Protocol, you’ll find some bonus value through the hero and villain miniatures as these five characters can also be used as alternate sculpt options in games of Marvel: Crisis Protocol. You’ll find a set of stat cards for playing these characters in both games inside the box.

Only the five “main” characters will be cross-overs between MCP:A and MCP. So you’ll be able to use them as alternate sculpts for the following characters:
- Spectacular Spider-Man (Peter Parker)
- Ultimate Spider-Man (Miles Morales)
- Black Cat
- Ghost Spider
- Green Goblin
And again, you’ll have the stat cards for MCP for each of these five characters included in the box also. That’s good news for anyone who might have had a hard time getting their hands on any of these existing characters.
So Many Minions
There will be a total of 18 Green Goblin Minions to use in M:CPA and they will be a mix of the following enemies:
- War Goblin
- Spider Slayer
- Goblin Army
If I had to guess, the ones on the hover boards are probably War Goblins. The Spider Slayers are the mech suit looking robots. And the Goblin Army are the dude with hoods and masks. There will be a LOT of minions cycling throughout the course of the game.
New enemies spawn onto the board every Turn, meaning that players must fight against an endless horde of minions while also battling the Boss and attempting to complete their chosen Stage’s unique objectives. This means that every single Round of the game is packed full of nonstop action, providing a gaming experience that is highly kinetic and full of thematic heroics.

Marvel: Crisis Protocol Alliance Core Gameplay
We also got a few more bits about the core gameplay loop, too.
The gameplay of Marvel: Crisis Protocol Alliances – Night of the Goblin features a variety of scenarios, called Stages, which allow for endless replay value. These Stages are played consecutively to tell a larger story, with the players customizing their heroes as they earn experience during each battle. Between the unique conditions of each Stage, the erratic behavior of the Green Goblin, and the endless army of minions to battle, no two games ever play out the same way.
At it’s core, the gameplay is similar to a standard MCP game but with more “boardgamey” things happening. The Stages and Objectives keep things interesting and moving as players have to balance completing those objectives along with managing the hordes of enemies.
The games is played over a series of rounds which are split up into three phases: Power, Activation, and Cleanup. Again, those should sound familiar to any current MCP players. The Power Phase is when the characters gain their power to use their attacks and abilities.
Next, the Activation Phase is (you guessed it) where the players Activate. There’s two parts (or turns) to this phase. First, the players activate all four of the characters. That includes moving, interacting with the objectives, and (of course) fighting enemies. The next part of the turn is when the baddies go.
…all of the enemies currently on the board move, new enemies spawn onto the board, and finally all enemies attack! Enemy movement and attacks are all detailed on their individual rules cards, along with any other special rules they might have.

Once players have completed all the stage objectives the boss arrives. If the players can defeat the boss then they win the stage. But if even ONE of them get’s KO’d, then they all lose the stage. So you’re going to want to work together to keep each other in the fight.
More Marvel: Crisis Protocol Alliances On The Way
The Night of the Goblin is just the FIRST entry into this series. AMG already teased the next box is going to feature the X-Men vs Mastermold and his army of Sentinels. I’m seriously pumped about that fact! I’m really hoping Mastermold is added to MCP in some way. If not, I’ve already got my own homebrew mission for that…
Anyhow, what’s really cool is that all the Marvel: Crisis Protocol Alliances boxes will be mix-and-match. Meaning you can create your own stories between these boxes. There’s going to be tons of combos between the different stages, enemies, and heroes you can choose to play with.
I’m really looking forward to this one. The Night of the Goblin is slated for a release later this year (Summer 2026). And I am SO ready to check it out.
You know the Avengers and more are going to get one of these boxes as well, right?
