The Eye of Terror Detachments are coming for Knights and the Iron Warriors. Are these upgrades or side grades for your Warhammer 40,000 army?

As much as I enjoy having options there’s a LOT of detachments in Warhammer 40,000 to think about. So what harm could a few more do at this point? Don’t answer that. Anyhow, let’s check out the previews for the new Iron Warriors and the Freeblade Knights coming very soon.

Iron Warriors Detachment – Warpstrike Champions

Chaos Terminators, Obliterators, and Mutilators are your spearpoint of choice – all things the sons of Perturabo like very much – and the strategic use of Warp Portals makes sure they’re always where you need them most.

Getting to teleport around the board could be a huge boon for these units in particular as they aren’t exactly the fastest units around. However, it’s not just the added mobility that’s scary. It’s also what they can do when they come back.

The Portal of Spite in particular seems like a massive boost for the folks who like to make big, risky plays. Adding 2 to the charge roll for Deep Striking units might not be a guaranteed charge but it’s good! Warp-Tainted also allows for you to take an objective and keep it even if you move away from it. Again, handy for units that need to be aggressive to earn their points.

I am curious to see what the rest of this detachment has within in. You know there’s going to be even more teleporting shenanigans to be had with this one.

Imperial Knight Detachment – Freeblade Company

If you’ve had your eye on the sleek new Knight Destrier, the Freeblade Company is a great way to ease into the Imperial Knights faction with enhanced durability, intuitive Stratagems, and a diverse mix of powerful Enhancements. The Knights of Legend Detachment rule keeps your Knights in the fight longer with regenerating wounds and the ever-useful Feel No Pain 6+ ability.

Okay, this one might not seem like the craziest boost ever but when you think about it from the mathhammer side, it’s kind of scary. Not only are Knights going to get to ignore one-in-six (roughly 16%) of the wounds they take, they are also going to regain 1 lost wound at the start of your Command Phase. These are big models with high wound counts. They are already pretty tough to take down and now they have a FNP on top of that toughness, too. And there’s always a situation where someone spikes their save and basically laughs as their Knight just keeps marching forward.

What’s also scary is what other things these Knights now get to do.

How about a Deep Striking/Redeploying Knight? That seems absolutely bonkers to me. You just get to pick up this massive knight and then move it to anywhere outside of 9″ of an enemy. I guess you’re not going to have any trouble getting in range with those weapons now! Or how about doing something on a slightly smaller scale with Armigers but this time it only costs you a command point and smart positioning?

Other Detachments Already Available

Finally, we also got note about the four other Detachments which are technically available now:

  • Chaos Knights – Helhunt Lance Detachment – Aura sharing.
  • Space Marines – Ceramite Sentinels Detachment – extra bonuses for staying behind cover.
  • Adeptus Mechanicus – Eradication Cohort Detachment –  built for “brutal head-on assaults.”
  • Chaos Space Marines – Vashtorr specific – Cult of the Arkifane Detachment – Big stompy robots and the “soul forges’ best” units.

If you’re looking to learn the specifics about those Detachments you can find them in their respective Faction Pack from the WarCom Downloads section.

The Eye of Terror is opening once more!
