Netflix is getting a taste of the Multiverse with the upcoming “Magic: the Gathering” animated series, heading to small screens soon!

Welcome in, Praetors and Planeswalkers! If you enjoyed Netflix’s recent adaptations of The Witcher, Avatar, and One Piece, I have excellent news for all of you! Netflix recently began production on a new series based in the Magic: the Gathering Universe.

Helmed by showrunner Terry Matalas, known for his work on Star Trek: Picard, this show will tell the exciting tales of the multiverse in an exciting new format!

The Details…

Matalas had this to say about the upcoming show:

“It has been an absolute dream collaboration with NETFLIX, HASBRO ENTERTAINMENT, WIZARDS OF THE COAST, and the brilliant Patrick Osborne to bring the many worlds of MAGIC: THE GATHERING to streaming. Those new to this sprawling saga will learn what millions of fans who play every day already know. MAGIC is the ultimate storytelling sandbox, brimming with iconic, complex characters, extraordinary mind-bending powers, and portals to every genre imaginable. It is also a powerful reminder that no matter what culture, country, or plane of existence you come from, we can all unite and become heroes together.”

This is an exhilarating prospect for MTG fans, particularly fans of the lore. The MTG Multiverse has a rich history, spanning multiple planes, timelines, and even dimensions! I’m excited to see which stories the series chooses to focus on.

With so many heroes and villains to take center stage, the showrunners are spoiled for choice. I’d love to see the War of the Spark or Phyrexian Invasion era. At this time, we don’t have any word on when the show will be hitting Netflix. Stay tuned here for more updates as they develop!
