GW has released the latest Faction packs for Age of Sigmar 4.0. We’ve got the lowdown on the biggest changes for the ecstatic executioners, the Hedonites of Slaanesh.

Welcome in, Generals of the Realms! Skaventide is out, the battle lines have been drawn, and we are firmly in the 4.0 season. If you’re anything like me, you’ve been chomping at the bit to see how your favorite faction fared in the update. Some are amazing, some are terrible, and most are a little bit of both. Whatever faction you play, there’s definitely been a massive shakeup in how you’re going to play.

The Chaos factions is full of all the dark, weird, and “evil” factions that make up the realms. Whether you’ve got the psychotic science of the Skaven or the unfettered brutality of Khorne, you’ll always get something wild with a Chaos army. However, a few of the followers of the Dark Gods take things a little…far. Obsessed with sensation and heightening it to inhuman degrees, the Hedonites of Slaanesh unleash some wild units onto the battlefield. Whether it’s daemons with suggestive bodies and massive crab claws or an obese warrior obsessed with fine dining, you’ll always get something extra with a Slaanesh army. Just make sure you stay away from any gilded puzzle boxes…

In Age of Sigmar 4.0, the Hedonites of Slaanesh traded a bit of their punch for versatility. That isn’t to say they’re weak; far from it. Instead, they aren’t the immediate daemonic blender they used to be. The Hedonites work a lot better in concert than they used to, and you’ll need to be a little more planning to make them do what you want. However, if you’re a little reckless and let your units revel in a bit of pain, you’ll be surprised how quickly they can smack back.

Hedonites of Slaanesh – The Good: Speed and Bleed

Slaanesh is one of the fastest armies in the game (even their most ponderous units have a 6″ move) and they LOVE to be in combat. While they aren’t the most well-armored army in the game, they have tons of ways to get around that. The best way, of course, is just killing the enemy first. But Slaanesh wants EVERYONE to feel the power. So the Hedonites also throw out a little temptation…

You can buff three of your units in exchange for giving your opponent a boost. They get a number of temptation dice equal to the number of units they choose, which allows them to replace any roll they make with a 6. However, whenever they use one, they have to roll it. If they roll a 3+, everything is fine, but if they roll a 1 or 2, Slaanesh takes his due. Not only is the roll replaced with that roll instead of a 6, but the unit suffers d3 mortal wounds. For the units YOU picked, they gain exploding 6s on all their attacks and can run and still shoot or charge later in the game.

Hedonites of Slaanesh – the Less Good: Hurts so Good

Like their Khainite cousins, the Hedonites are not known for their durability. They have some juicy ward saves in most cases, but their armor is nothing to write home about. You’ll need to make sure you pick your battles carefully and only engage in places you know you’ll win. Move often, kite with your ranged and magical units, and then swing in for the kill with your melee powerhouses.

How did your favorite faction do?
