Madcala is a new take on the classic Mancala, but with a modern twist and set in the iconic world of Wonderland.

Madcala is an upcoming head-to-head strategy game, where rather than building a deck of cards or placing your workers, players choose their actions by using the same mechanics found in the game of Mancala. Players will use their unique player powers and special powers granted by their guests to attempt to reduce their opponent’s life points to zero. Or else, they might just go mad in the process.

Madcala Overview

In Mancala (note the N), marbles are placed in a number of little buckets in a circle. Players take turns picking up the marbles in a bucket and placing them one at a time in each consecutive bucket. That’s the basis for gameplay in Madcala (note the D).

But here, the last bucket will determine which action the player will take on their turn. Could be deal damage, adding new marbles (here called shards), using special powers, or drawing from a deck of cards.

Madcala begins with each player choosing a character. There are many different characters, each with their own unique power and tactics. But regardless of the character, the goal remains the same: reduce your opponent to 0 life.

On their turns, players will grab a pile of shards from their side of the board and move it around clockwise, dropping 1 shard per slot. Where ever the final shard drops determines the actions the player takes.

Additional to their character ability, players get 4 guests as well. These guests are from the remaining character cards, so they will also have their own powers to use. Guests can help fine-tune a player’s overall strategy.

Finally, players can invite Commoners. Commoners don’t have fully fledged abilities, but provide one-time bonus effects to aid their host. Commoners are drawn from a deck and are discarded after use. But they can provide a much-needed boost at just the right moment.

Both players start with 25 life and through various actions and abilites will slowly whittle their opponent’s life total away. The first player to reduce the other to 0 life is declared the winner and the greatest host in all of Wonderland!
