Goatboy here to talk about that Warhammer 40K November Preview – and how awesome it was!

As we contemplate our upcoming Turkey feasts let’s talk about that preview.  I have to say this was a very strong one which is awesome.  The last few have felt a bit lackluster with either promises of future time lines feeling weak, models we have already seen, or just nothing that drives up excitement.  Thankfully this one did a whole lot to get me excited about the upcoming year of releases.

The only thing missing was something Chaos-like with either a hint of Emperor’s Children or at least some of the other Cult armies.  I think that is probably one of the biggest future releases we’ll get but that might just be due to me being a chaotic fanatic.  I would just be excited to see some of the cult books get full releases just to help alleviate some of the “sameness” we see in the CSM armies.

Advent Calendar Detachments

First the big talk was the new Advent calendar.  I did like the old one with all the model hints but this seems so much sweeter.  The idea of putting out 24 different detachments is amazing to me.   That is a whole slew of rules with so many thoughts and ideas to fill these out.  I love that it isn’t a bunch of Xmas related ones too and instead looking at armies that match older stuff or ways someone might have collected their armies.  I am excited to see what is coming out and just more than a little worried I will have too much to write about during the week.  I just hope we get a much better Chaos Knight one to play with.

Death Korps of Krieg

From there we got to see the upcoming Krieg models and wow those look amazing.  I do not want to play an Astra Militarum army but these models are some of the few that truly speak to me.  I do like how they shifted the horses into something more mutated looking.  It gives me the thought that maybe under those masks is something horrible.  It also gives me a lot of thoughts about creating something Traitor like or at least converting some dope looking biker horseman.  I really like the overall forms in the sculpting too.  There is a whole lot to look at with how their muscles look and just how all the pieces feel like they should fit together.  They are just nicely designed and not overly complicated to fit some kind of “modeling” challenge to get as many doodads on a model.

At Long Last – Aeldari!

The real big release though is the Aeldari.  The only real shame is the oddly missing Striking Scorpions Phoenix Lord Karandras, but all the others are showing up so maybe it will be a stealth release in all of this.  It is just amazing to think the Warp Spyders will finally get a new release after being one of the oldest “usable” models in the game, over 30 years old.  Some of the Swooping Hawks feel a little bit too tall and while I am not the fan of all the strategically placed “rocks” to hang off of they at least seem to have done away with using “flight” stands.  They might bounce a bit but they should hold up better than watching your clear plastic sphere ended flying stick break inside the connector.  It sounds like the book is having a full rework too and hopefully they won’t break the edition like the other books from older editions.

What else do you think might show up with the Aeldari?  Maybe a new Prince Yriel?  Will we see a detachment be better than the old one?  Will the Fate stuff be fully erased or will we have something even more broken?  Will Ynarri armies work too?

The Other Odds & Ends Rocked To!

Overall this was a great showing of 40k stuff.  The Age of Sigmar army looked pretty cool as well as the Old World stuff and Horus Heresy things.  I have a soft spot in my heart for the Arvus Lighter.  Larry, the editor for this site has one of the old ones that he carefully painted the green glow in the cockpit and the model itself did help one of our friends win one of the ancient Adepticon tournaments with some giant robot nonsense way back  in 2009.  It does feel like we will have a pretty big year of releases as we got a ton more books waiting to come out, more models to drool over, and fun to be had throwing dice.

What models are you most excited about?
