Goatboy here to breakdown the 40K Advent Calendar Detachment – the Orks ‘Taktikal Brigade’ with tips, tricks, and a sample army!
With this 2024 Advent Calendar of fun stuff for Warhammer 40K coming out, it’s time to review the detachments as they come out. We’ll do as usual a Good, Bad, and Ugly little break down for each one then a look at the type of list I would play for this army. I will begin with one of the detachments and as the weeks go on break down a few in batches as they come out. I am very excited to see some new rules and maybe some new ways to play an army and create something new and unique. Right now the game is sorta of locking into “best” of style armies and while we do have some innovation from time to time it feels like the same tricks are what is going to carry “best of” armies to the top.
‘Taktikal Brigade’ – The Good
This detachment feels like one of the more uniquely designed ones we have had. It goes hard into whole Blood Axe vibe of being a weirdly regimental group of crazy Orks. It really feels fun and unique which is a great thing. I also think it isn’t too bad either with a lot of neat ideas, some combos, and a lot of interesting interactions. The army has two unique rules to set it apart from the other Ork options. The first one is called Lissen ‘Ere and it is an Order like rule that lets Boss Snikrot, Mek, and a Warboss give a Taktik to a unit within 6” of the model. You can select two Taktiks but it causes the unit to take a Leadership test and if failed suffer d3 Mortal wounds. It doesn’t stop the Taktik from going off just hurts them.
You can only select a unit once for Taktiks and they cannot be given one if Battleshocked. They also lose the Taktik if they become Battleshocked as well. There are four of them and all are pretty good for specific units. Get Stuck In gives the unit reroll charges. Get on Wiv It adds +1 strength to their Melee weapons. Sneaky Stalkin’ gives stealth to Infantry and Mounted Models (not Meganobz) as well as counting in Cover. Shoota Drills lets the Ork units get a +1 to the hit roll for ranged attacks (Flash Gitz GOOOO!!!). All of these are pretty good and being able to stack some if needed is pretty neat. On top of this rule the army also lets Storm Boyz get the Battleline Keyword which could be the sneaky secret sauce for this army.
From there we get four Enhancements. Two are designed to upgrade a character to be able to join a unit during the Declare Battle Formations step. One lets a Warboss join a Kommandos unit. This can also be a Beastboss On Squigosaur as it has the Warboss Keyword or a Deffkilla Wartrike. It gives the model Infiltrator and Stealth which could lead to some fun quick charges for a Giant model. The other is a Mek Kaptin that lets you take a Big Mek, Big Mek in Mega Armour, or Big Mek with Shock Attack gun the ability to join a Unit of Flash Gitz. It gives the unit a full hit reroll too which is pretty dang powerful. Mork’s Kunnin’ lets you pick up to 3 Ork units and redeploy them. Gob Boomer lets the bearer give Taktiks to a friendly Ork Infantry or Mounted unit within 18” instead of 6”. This last one is weird as it locks what you can give it to unlike the normal Taktiks rule.
There are 6 Stratagems and they seem full of fun tricks. Dat’s Ours gives an extra OC to an Ork unit within Engagement range of the enemy during your command phase. This is a great way to “grab” back an objective before you score. Fight Proppa gives a unit Sustain Hits 1 or Lethal hits in the fight phase for their Melee Attacks. Taktikal Retreat gives the unit Fallback and Charge which is always useful. Krunchin’ Descent gives your Stormboyz unit the ability to cause Mortal wounds on the charge with a roll a d6 per model in engagement range and on a 4+ cause one. A max of 6 Mortals can be done but having this in your pocket for a nice big unit of Stormboyz is a good thing. They even have a remove from battlefield and put back in reserves for Kommando units in Ded Sneaky. The On to Da Next is also fun as it lets you make a normal 6” move if an enemy falls back from you which could be interesting.
‘Taktikal Brigade’ – The Bad
It feels like we could have had some kind of movement option in the Taktikal options to make it a bit more interesting. Either something that lets your dudes just move faster or a Git Over Der’ like option to just fill out all the cool things this can do.
‘Taktikal Brigade’ – The Ugly
Man why can’t we have Kaptain Badruk in this mess? He would have been a cool little sheet to add to this and just be something interesting. Or heck just a Jump Pack Warboss option?

‘Taktikal Brigade” Tactics
This is pretty simple you got a lot of options to give Taktiks out. You can throw some things into Reserves as needed, you can get something really close or cause a problem for those armies wanting to get the jump on ya, and you got some fun stuff to interact with. It feels like a hot mess of things and that is kinda what makes Orks fun. I don’t know how good it will work or if the correct set up is a ton of Flash Gitz, Lootas, and other stuff to abuse having a +1 to hit but it is something interesting to look at.
