Marvel Rivals is getting the Fantastic Four before Marvel: Crisis Protocol and I don’t know how to feel about it.

Okay, so yes, I’m excited about Marvel’s First Family joining Marvel Rivals. But I’m also a bit bummed because the Fantastic Four still aren’t in Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Before we go down that rabbit hole, you might want to check out the trailer first.

The Fantastic Four Are Coming To Marvel Rivals

So let’s back up a second. Marvel Rivals, if you don’t know, is a new third person 6v6 Hero Shooter. You play as various different Marvel Characters and go blastin’ in objective based games. It’s also free to play. I’ve been playing a ton lately with friends online and it’s been fun.

However, I’m a bigger fan of Marvel: Crisis Protocol overall. And yeah, I know, those are two different games in two very different media…but the characters overlap. In fact, there’s a few on the current roster of Rivals I’d love to see join MCP. Well, now we can add another four to the mix.

This was leaked but it’s been officially confirmed now. It’s even on the official Marvel Rivals Twitter/X page. And again, I’m glad to see the Fantastic Four get added to Rivals. I just was hoping we’d see them join MCP as well.

If there’s anything I’ve learned from the Marvel Multiverse it’s that both of these properties can exist with each other. They both have a ton of room to grow. Also, we know that in 2025, MCP is looking to go Cosmic. Well, funny story, there’s a particular set of heroes that got their powers after an incident involving Cosmic Rays.

And look, this isn’t a dig on Atomic Mass Games or NetEase Games. In fact, the line-up coming from AMG this year in MCP has me pretty hyped already. Shoot, at the end of the month we’re getting four new characters that I’m itching to get. Plus there’s loads of characters in MCP that aren’t in Marvel Rivals. If anything, Rivals has some catching up to do.

There’s also the pipeline of how these characters get added to their respective games. I have some ideas and suspicions on how that all works — but those are just guesses. But I can guarantee there’s a lot of back-and-forth between their respective studios and Disney’s lawyers. I bet those licensing agreements are intense. The point is that it’s probably a lot more complicated that we may ever know.

All that to say, I’ve still got hope that the Fantastic Four will join Marvel: Crisis Protocol in the future. I know Disney looks like it’s going to start pushing Doctor Doom as the big bad soon enough. And you really can’t have Doom without the Fantastic Four. I’ll I’m saying is the cross-promotion is a marketing team’s golden opportunity.

It does say “Non Exhaustive” in the corner…I’m just sayin’!

Until they show up on the tabletop in MCP, I guess playing them in Marvel Rivals will have to do.
