Atomic Mass Games introduced the concept with the War of Kings. Now we’ve got even more storylines we want from Crisis Card Packs!
The War of Kings Crisis Card pack introduced a new way to use the Crisis Cards in Marvel: Crisis Protocol. The concept was simple. You could essentially play the missions in a particular order and pairing that would mimic the storylines from the comics.
Atomic Mass Games proved this concept would work and they are gearing up to do it again with the coming “Tolerance is Exitinction” Crisis Card Pack penciled in for a 2026 release. That said, I wanted to toss out a few more storylines pulled directly from the comics that could also fit into this same concept.
The Infinity Gauntlet Saga
This one is kinda in the game already. The Thanos Ultimate Encounter is sort of the pinnacle of that arc — he’s got the stones in that fight and you’re basically trying to stop him. That said, I think the Infinity Gauntlet storyline is VERY broad. There are some key elements from the arc that could be pulled out from the limited run. And there’s a TON of crossover/tie-in stories, too. Personally, I’d like to see the Silver Surfer be the character released with this pack. That or Mistress Death…but she might be a tad too over the top in power.
House of M
House of M is the (in)famous storyline where Wanda, the Scarlet Witch, utters the phrase “No more mutants” and *poof* things get weird. But that actually happens towards the end of the arc. The story itself is a kind of a reversal of the Status Quo in Marvel. The Mutants are the dominate culture over the normal humans. But there are some really interesting story beats that could be used here as well. Things like the Human Resistance attempting to “wake-up” other heroes. Or the confrontation between the Human Resistance and the House of M.
Character-wise, I think a new variant of Magneto would be cool. Or some really powerful-yet-unstable version of The Scarlet Witch. There’s options here.
World War Hulk
World War Hulk is another big cross-over event in Marvel. The basic premise is simple: Hulk is back from his exile in space and he’s mad. But he’s not just normal mad. He’s also focused his anger on the people that sent him into space because of the events of Planet Hulk. Anyhow, Hulk tears through quite a few teams in this storyline and while that could make for one heck of an Ultimate Encounter, I think there’s enough side story there for AMG to build missions around the big fights.
There’s the pit stop on the moon to punk out Black Bolt and the Inhumans. There’s the stop at the Xavier Institute to have a “chat” with Xavier and the X-Men. And there’s the climatic battle with the Sentry where they are punching each other with the force of nukes. How could those be incorporated into actual Crisis Missions? I have ideas but Damage Control is a big part of that!
Character-wise I think a World Breaker Hulk would be the obvious tie-in for this Crisis Card Pack. But I could also see the Sentry get released with this one, too. There’s also the members of Hulk’s Warbound that could even be released as an entire Character Pack. The point is there’s plenty to work with here.
So Many Great Stories To Choose From
Marvel’s been around for so long and has had TONS of story events. I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface. There’s things like Days of Future Past, the Dark Phoenix Saga, Avengers Disassembled, and so much more. And those are just stories from the past. Even fairly recent events like the previous Summer’s Bloodhunt could be turned into a Crisis Card pack of missions.
So if you’ve got a favorite storyline from Marvel that you think could be a cool Crisis Card Pack drop us a line in the comments with that storyarc and the character you think would be the best to come with it!
