Atomic Mass Games released a flurry of Organized Play updates along with the final one for Star Wars: Armada.
Earlier this week Atomic Mass Games posted Organized Play updates for (basically) all their supported game systems. We’re going to touch on those but the big news was that they released the final update for Organized Play for Star Wars: Armada.
Star Wars Armada Officially Receives Final Update
“Admirals, it’s with great respect and admiration that we announce the final update for Star Wars: Armada. This release includes revised Tournament Regulations, updated rules, and errata, bringing new options to your fleets. As we chart the end of our journey with this beloved game, we do so with immense gratitude.
Find the updated files for Star Wars: Armada here.
To the incredible Star Wars: Armada community, thank you for your passion, creativity, and unwavering support over the years. It has been an honor to be a small part of your journey in a galaxy far, far away.
Prepare your flagship, rally your crew, and take to the stars one last time. May the Force be with you, always.”
I wanted to screen shot this one and save it for posterity. This is a bittersweet moment for the Star Wars: Armada community as a whole. The writing had to be on the wall so it’s not a surprise. Still, the day has finally come to give Armada a send off.
Look, this sucks all around. I know there’s going to be a lot of bitterness towards AMG for this one. But I think there’s other folks to blame for this (and X-Wing) getting shut down. I’ve had a long time theory about what happened to both those systems. I’ll spare you the conspiracy theories. Anyhow, the gist is that it all comes down to a lack of new ships to make.
You can point to all the ships in the EU that never got created. But that’s the problem: The EU was basically removed from canon. Combine that with a lack of new properties coming out to create ships from (due to a certain IP holder scaling back) and, well, yeah. And yes, there were more ships they could have made. I’m sure everyone would have loved to buy a dozen Xyston-class Star Destroyers from Episode IX. Those planet killers would have been totally fair and balanced and good for the game.
It’s not like the sequel series was divisive or anything…
This whole situation feels like AMG to setup to take the fall for both X-Wing and Armada. It was really a matter of time before they hit a wall with the pool of available/approved ships for both games. I’m pretty sure they hit that wall and then got stuck holding the bag.
At least we got the Super Star Destroyer out of it!
