Cubicle 7 has just announced a brand new Horus Heresy RPG, set in the defining moment of the Imperium’s history. How will you fare?
Big news for Warhammer 40k sickos today. Cubicle 7 announced a new tabletop RPG set during the Horus Heresy. As you might imagine, a Horus Heresy RPG is about as deep in the biotoxin-filled weeds of 40K as you can get. Especially since it’s technically 10,000 years before 40K takes place.

And the Horus Heresy RPG gets real into the nitty gritty of the Horus Heresy, too. It’s got all that crunchy story goodness you’d hope to find in it. Of course, you’ll have a while to wait before you dip into the pool of treachery that is the Heresy and all its twists and turns. The Horus Heresy RPG isn’t slated for pre-order until later this year, with stores not seeing their copies until 2026.
Though typically, with Cubicle 7 when the book is up for pre-order you get a PDF for immediate use. Because they, like mostof the other RPG publishers, save one, aren’t afraid of releasing digital products in a convenient manner.
The Horus Heresy RPG – Coming Soon From Cubicle 7

Right now, we know little about the game. At press time, no details about the system itself have been revealed yet. Though if I had to hazard a guess, I’d point to Imperium Maledictum. But who knows! I could see them doing a bespoke system for this.
Especially since, as the press release suggests, the Horus Heresy RPG comes with a built-in narrative campaign setup:
“The game opens with the betrayal at Isstvan – an act of vile treachery that tears the Imperium in two. You are thrown straightinto the maelstrom as Legionary Conuls leading a rag-tag warfleet fighting desperately for survival – and vengeance. Your first priority is to escape, harried by traitors warp-bent on your destruction. But what then? How will you survive and regroup? How do you overcome the shock of betrayal and keep your forces supplied? Perhaps most importantly – who can you trust?
I don’t know about you, but that sounds cool as hellwarp. I like the idea of centering the campaign in an actual military campaign. Playing the leaders of a hounded and harried fleet feels like exactly the kind of vibe you’d want for your first foray into the world of the Horus Heresy RPG.
The questions of logistics and safety, coupled with having to chart a course to what you can only hope is a safe haven is the kind of challenge you only get with very specific mechanics in mind. So I could see there being a custom framework for this – in much the same way that navigating the gaslamp setting of Doskvol is as much a part of the mechanics of Blades in the Dark as cutting some purse strings is.
So keep an eye out for more as we get closer to the pre-order date. I’m sure more details will be forthcoming in the coming weeks. But for now, time to go break out the Abnett.
Isstvan – now there’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time. A long time.
