Welcome back to Factions Focus. This time around we’re going to go in a slightly different direction and give you some more options for your crews.
Nukaworld was fought over by three crews (the Disciples, Operators and Pack) who continue to threaten the wasteland to this very day. However, when they were introduced to our model range they were created not just for Fallout: Factions, but also for its sister game Fallout: Wasteland Warfare. Those games are very different, with a different focus, and the kits that were created needed to serve both games. Because Fallout: Wasteland Warfare has a lot more modularity, there needed to be a lot more options on the sprues for that game than would end up being used in the versions of the crews that hit Fallout: Factions. After all, can you imagine the chaos of a Pack crew with a Missile Launcher?
Well, imagine no longer. This month we’re not diving into the thinking behind anything. Instead, we’re presenting something we know is a terrible idea: every single weapon option on the three Nukaworld gang sprues for Fallout: Factions. Now you can run riot with plasma guns, missile launchers and anything else you can find in those kits (assuming your opponent and play group agrees). These are fundamentally not going to lead to even or balanced games. But absolutely get in touch and tell us how you found them, because we’re frankly fascinated to know.

Oh all right I guess I can give you one more thing if you really want.
Combat Rifles are something of a problem. Not a massive one, not all the time, not for all crews, but Maim is very good indeed and a commonly available weapon with good range and Maim that’s also Fast? That can be a game changer.
Maim is supposed to represent the sheer brutal force of an attack doing harm. It’s the shock and awe of a weapon deployed that leaves you reeling. That’s why big explosive weapons like Missile Launchers and Grenades have it (as your ears ring and your vision flashes) and why shotguns do it (blasting away at close range really knocks them down). So the Combat Rifle, being a long-ranged rifle, has it and that’s a little odd! Ultimately, it’s a product of wanting to separate what are, in the video games, very similar weapons.
But Maim is an effect that we do want to see. The Operators have it as their “signature” effect, and ultimately if we were to scrap it, it would massively lower the whole gang’s performance. We also could strip Fast from it, and that’s cool from a semi-auto professional weapon, but it does also seem to take something fun from a crew where snapping off two shots in an activation is a key strategy. Finally we could just replace Maim with something else, and that really throws us into unknown territory.
So let’s do all three.
Wild Wasteland: Alternate Combat Rifle (Semi-Auto Fire) Remove Fast from the Combat Rifle. |
Wild Wasteland: Alternate Combat Rifle (Automatic Fire) Remove Maim from the Combat Rifle. |
Wasteland: Alternate Combat Rifle (Tactical Fire) Remove Maim from the Combat Rifle. Give it the Overwatch trait. |

When using this weapon, this model does not have to take Fatigue to give Supporting Fire.
Let us know how you get on with these interpretations of the Combat Rifle. Which one felt best, for both players? Let us know on our Discord or via email and you never know, you might get to shape what we do with this weapon in the future…
