The One Year War left its mark throughout the Solar System. Perhaps most of all the successor to the Pegasus-class ship, the Argama.

Of the many innovations that followed in the wake of the One Year War, perhaps one of the more important was the development of a new type of assault carrier. The Argama-class carrier was the descendant of and successor to the Pegasus-class line. After the SCV-70 White Base and its dedicated crew helped turn the tide of the One Year War, it became clear that the design was stalwart enough to carry forward.

And the original Argama-class ship, the Argama proved its worth almost immediately. It was the flagship of the Anti Earth Union Group during the Gryps war. Over the course of the war, it was upgraded with experimental weaponry and carried the banner into the Neo Zeon war that followed. Like the White Base before it, the Argama played a pivotal role, not only for freedom, but for the Solar System.

The Argama – Design And Capabilities Of A Pegasus, Evolved

If there is one principle that can define the Argama’s whole design direction, it was to out-White Base the White Base. In many ways, it is a ship defined by its successor for much of its early career. It carries more Mobile Suits than the White Base, has heavier guns, and more thrusters. All while paying tribute to the ship that came before.

Like the White Base, the Argama has a module for simulated gravity. Though instead of a centrifuge, the Argama relies on two rotating residential modules to create its own gravity where needed. Though the modules could be retracted when combat ensued.

But more than bigger crew compartments and Mobile Suit hangars, the Argama carried a plethora of weaponry. Its main battery of guns was an array of four single-barreled beam cannons, each forward facing to allow for a devastating barrage on enemy spacecraft.

Backing up that battery, a pair of high powered “mega particle cannons” stored in special compartments. During the course of the Neo Zeon war, the left mega particle cannon was upgraded, becoming a hyper mega particle cannon – the most powerful shipboard weapon of its day. A single shot could destroy fortified asteroids.

But the Argama’s systems make all the difference. Including a Minovsky Craft System, which allowed it to function in both atmosphere and space with extraordinary maneuverability, including the ability to hover while on Earth. A ballute atmospheric re-entry system shielded the ship from heat, allowing it to take on even steep re-entry angles. And a special fire control system allowed for the mounting of missile launchers and anti-air laser batteries when the ship needed an upgrade.

A History of Battle

The Argama itself was originally put into srervice in UC 0087. Then, it was under the command of Captain Henken Bekkener, and tasked with capturing one of the new Gundams being developed at a Titan base on Green Noa 1.

The mission was a resounding success. In more ways than one. Eventually the Argama is involved in the rescue of Bright Noa, the former commander of the White Base, who takes over command from Bekkener for the remainder of the Gryps war and into the Neo Zeon War. Under Noa’s command, the ship is retrofitted for extensive combat, and sees almost immediate action as it led AEUG forces into the first battles of the Neo Zeon War. However, the Argama was abandoned after the Colony Drop of Dublin, left to be rebuilt as a succesor more powerful than any ther assault carrier.
