The Marvel: Crisis Protocol Roadmap and future plans have me hyped for the direction Atomic Mass Games is going.

Last week we got a look at Atomic Mass Games and their AdeptiCon previews for Marvel: Crisis Protocol. There is a LOT of great stuff coming down the pipe. As I watched the preview I tried to take notes and screenshots for it all but I knew there were things I was going to want to circle back to. Well, today is the day as it’s still all very fresh in my mind. So let’s get to some of the highlights and why I’m so pumped for MCP’s future.

The MCP 2025-2026 Release Timeline (not an exhaustive list)

Marvel: Crisis Protocol – The Future Looks Bright

To kick things off, I want to jump to the prospects for new players getting into the game. While the Earth’s Mightiest Core Set is still a great option, there’s a good chance that maybe those characters aren’t what you want to play with. I totally get that. I’ll be honest, while I like the Avengers, I wasn’t sold on MCP until the X-Men arrived. Now, I’ve gone back and been collecting everything. That’s how they get you, folks! Anyhow, for new players, the New Starter Sets are an amazing option.

Not only are these Starter Packs an entire 10 character roster in a single purchase, they also contain everything else you need to start. You get dice, measuring tools, and the game components. They don’t have terrain but that also means the price point is going to be much more approachable at $89.99. To me, that’s a win! During the show, AMG also talked about how these starter sets may rotate in and out. The X-Men might be an “Evergreen” set — meaning it would stay in rotation. While the Spider-Foes might cycle out for say Asgardians or Guardians of the Galaxy. Or really any of the combos you could think of. There’s a lot of possibilities here.

Restocks Incoming

Another big piece of news was about the restocks coming to the stores. There’s been a lack of product restocks from Asmodee/AMG for MCP — and they know. Part of that has been intentional as they were trying let the singles and duo packs fade out while they prepared for their move to Affiliation Pack-style releases. Why the shift? For a couple of reasons. Firstly, it’s easier for everyone involved. The stores have to carry less SKUs, the players get more bang for their buck, new players grow their Affiliations faster, and production-wise it’s a way to update the cards for multiple languages.

I personally also think the way they have re-organized their releases in Affiliation Packs is much more customer friendly. For example, while it’s cool to get Daredevil and Bullseye in a pack (the Hero and their Nemesis), it doesn’t really make sense from a gameplay standpoint. They don’t exactly “play nice” together as they don’t share an Affiliation. You probably wouldn’t see them in the same roster unless the player just didn’t have a better option.

The new Affiliation Packs solve this issue by grouping characters that share Affiliations together. And again, the overall price is actually cheaper than buying the old character packs. This is just a flat-out good thing.

Mutants Vs Sentinels

There’s SO MANY awesome characters coming to the game. From Blue Marvel, to Spider-Man 2099, to Spider-Ham, and more! Seriously go check out the preview for them. But I’d be lying if I didn’t talk about the next Character/Crisis Pack coming in 2026. It’s been named “Tolerance is Extinction” and it’s a Mutant vs Sentinel themed pack. Following the groundwork laid out with the War of Kings Crisis Card Pack, not only will this pack have a new character included, but it will have a “narrative” laid out as well. The missions will be usable as one-offs just like a normal mission pack, too. But as an X-Men fan, I’m excited to see this story unfold — and get to play it out!

Bastion, Nimrod, and more Sentinel characters are coming and I’m super pumped about that. I’m also glad to see quite a few characters I had on my wish list are getting added to the game. I guess I’ll have to cross them off my list now and find even more characters to add to my listicles!

No Fantastic Four? No Problem

While I was really hoping to see the Fantastic Four get their own Affiliation Pack announced at AdeptiCon, it was just wasn’t meant to be. That’s okay, there’s always the Ministravaganza! Plus, if I’m being honest, there’s PLENTY to get excited about (as mentioned above). My hobby desk is going to be full of characters to paint and games to play with the upcoming characters as is. We might not have a Galactus for the tabletop, but I’ve got plenty of Mutants vs Sentinels on the horizon to think about.

More Room To Grow

Atomic Mass Games is making a lot of great moves with Marvel: Crisis Protocol. The support for Stores with new Tournament Packs, the support for new players with upcoming Starter Sets, and the support for Veteran players with easier ways to collect Affiliations are all good moves. There is still a massive amount of Marvel Characters they can tap into as well as alternate versions of existing characters (yay Multiverse). Plus, the sculpts have just been getting better and better. The way they make their characters float of the bases in creative ways is just plain cool.

If you’re interested in getting started with Marvel: Crisis Protocol, my best advice is just grab a pack with your favorite character(s), find a buddy, and go play. Be a kid watching cartoons again and just enjoy it. That’s part of the magic of Marvel: Crisis Protocol!

The Future of MCP looks bright!
