Games Workshop has a new Space Wolves Combat Patrol planned out for Warhammer 40k. It’s time to unleash the wolves already!

So this is a little bit of an odd one. I was looking around for the Space Wolves Combat Patrol. I was assuming GW was going to refresh it with the release of the new codex. However, when looking on their website, the old one is gone and there’s not a replacement yet. What gives? Is there even a new Combat Patrol planned? Well, the answer to the second question is “Yes.” However, it’s not where I was expecting it to be.

I was looking at the latest WarCom article about how GW suggests you get started with the Space Wolves. It’s got a few nuggets of wisdom in there for sure. That’s when I came across this image:

“Askar’s Wolfpack is led by Fyrri Askar, a ferocious Wolf Guard Battle Leader who joins a unit of 10 Blood Claws to drive deep into the heart of enemy lines. With them, a pack of five vicious Wulfen flank their prey with superior speed, constantly on the edge of a berserk rage brought on by their bestial curse.

Five Wolf Guard Terminators are your anvil, soaking up extreme amounts of firepower as they trudge across the battlefield looking for heretics to smash. They are as deadly as their provenance would suggest, and thick Terminator armour, combined with their natural stubbornness, makes them astoundingly difficult to kill.”

Space Wolf Combat Patrol Inbound

So content-wise we’ve got:

  • Wolf Guard Battle Leader
  • 10x Blood Claws
  • 5x Wulfen
  • 5x Wolf Guard Terminators

And this is a Combat Patrol so they will have their special combat patrol rules — when those actually come out. They aren’t currently available for download…yet.

Anyhow, I was curious if this Combat Patrol is even feasible to collect right now from GW directly. Well, the new units are all in stock. That makes sense as they were just released. The Wulfen however…

Yep. Out of stock — at least online. You might be able to find a box at your local store. Now, assuming you’re an old school Space Wolf player, the odds are good you’ve already got all the models you need. But for new player looking to get into the Combat Patrol game with the Space Wolves, it’s a little more difficult.

Where’s The Combat Patrol?

I don’t know what the hold up is on GW’s end. I’m honestly a little surprised that the Space Wolves Combat Patrol didn’t launch at the same time as the new codex when the second wave hit. Maybe it’s a stock issue on their part. Or maybe they are just repackaging a bunch of the Wolfen into Combat Patrol boxes. Shoot, for all we know there was just a delay on the boxes from the printers. The truth is we may never find out what’s going on.

What I do know is there is clearly a new Combat Patrol box for the Space Wolves. So if you’re wanting to start a Space Wolves army but missed the Army box I’d say grab the codex and wait for the new Combat Patrol to arrive. Let’s just blame it on the Wulfen slowing things down. They did get lost in the warp for a bit after all.
