Mongoose Publishing announced it has acquired the rights to the Dark Conspiracy RPG and will have a new version out in 2026.
In tabletop news today, Mongoose Publishing, whom you might know as the publishers of Traveller, announced today that it had acquired the rights to the 90s-riffic Dark Conspiracy RPG originally published by GDW and created by Lester Smith.
It’s a “dark horror” RPG set in the near future—not long after a “Greater Depression” has destroyed the global economy and left many countries isolated and bankrupt (auspicious timing). Dark Conspiracy is an RPG of fighting monsters and aliens and demons. No really. And it’s as awesome as it sounds.
Only now players can expect a new edition of the system in the wake of Mongoose’s acquisition. Here’s what we know so far.
Mongoose Picks Up Dark Conspiracy RPG Rights
Per Mongoose Publishing’s announcement on BlueSky, the acquisition is so recent the digital ink is practically still drying. But the company is already excited about its plans for the game
“Last week Mongoose Publishing acquired all rights to the Dark Conspiracy RPG, the classic game pitting players against an ancient and alien horror.
Expect to see a new Dark Conspiracy in 2026.”
If you’re unfamiliar with Dark Conspiracy, basically the premise is sometime in the near future. The world is reeling from global economic collapse and environmental devastation. It’s complete with multiple holes in the ozone layer, where an eldritch evil is released from its long-secret dimensional prison. Aliens show up, and in the wastelands between megacities, demons and worse maraud. The system used the Twilight 2000 RPG system developed by GDW and was packed full of guns, gear, and d10s.
You can explore the classic RPG yourself on Mongoose’s webstore, if you want to learn more. But stay tuned, because next year, which seems impossibly far away now, will see the release of a new version of the game.
‘Dark Conspiracy’ continues to be resonant—for better or worse!
