Halo: Flashpoint is a fantastic skirmish game set in the Halo Universe. Mantic Games has some great tips on how to get into it!

Getting started with a new tabletop game can be intimidating. Especially if you’re completely new to the concept. And, because Halo has mass appeal, there’s bound to be a lot of new players checking it out for the first time. Well, Mantic Games has a nice guide to help folks through the process.

Getting Started With Halo: Flashpoint

via Mantic Games

Mantic Games has created a pretty handy flowchart of how to get into Halo. It really is as simple as this three step process. Personally, I’m still on step two as I’m waiting on step three to be released later this year.

I got lucky and scored a copy of the Spartan Edition. And I got some terrain because I’m extra. Anyhow either starter edition has everything you need to start playing. These are great starter sets and will ease even the greenest of recruits into the game.

Advanced Fireteam Building

In my opinion, this is really where the game opens up. It’s actually not that complicated to list build either. I’ll spare you the read and just say watch the video above. Mantic Games’ Andy does a great job of explaining list building in way more detail. The list building part actually starts around the 10:37 mark. Games range in points value from 150, 200, or 250 — you agree on a value before hand. And then it’s just a simple point based army building system.

You can also download the App for more on the list building front as well. The free tier gives you access to everything you need to list build and even allows you to submit those lists to tournaments in their tournament finder. Yes, this game already has tournament support!

More Halo Coming Soon

The next big wave is going to feature the Rise of the Banished. Yes, that means the Brutes are coming. Right now, there’s even a special pre-order bonus for Warmaster Atriox that’s looking mighty spicy!

But that’s not all. There will be more scenery as well as more fireteam sets coming in the future as well. If you want to hear about all the cool new Mantic stuff coming soon, Ronnie and Andy have a video about all those goodies, too:

If you haven’t given Halo: Flashpoint a shot yet, you really should. It’s fast and fun. Personally, I am still shocked at how well it captured the feeling of the Halo video games — but on the tabletop. While it’s never going to be exactly the same as sitting on the couch with a buddy for some Team Slayer action, this feels pretty darn close!

Halo: Flashpoint is available pretty much everywhere so keep an eye out for it!
