Atomic Mass Games is showcasing the updated Galactic Empire Scout Trooper kit and their new cards for Star Wars: Legion.

The Scout Troopers are getting the spotlight from AMG with a new release. I’ve actually had the chance to unbox their new kit already, and it’s great for the Galactic Empire players out there looking to expand their ranks. That said, today, we’re taking a deeper dive into their cards and stats thanks to Atomic Mass Games. So let’s see what they are bringing to the tabletop!

“The reach of the Galactic Empire extends to even the most remote planets, harboring harsh and unusual environments that often demand more discretion than afforded by the stormtrooper shock troops. When the assignment demands mobility and flexibility, the Scout Troopers are among the first to deploy, specializing in reconnaissance while remaining as lethal as any of the Empire’s finest.”

Scout Troopers In Star Wars: Legion

One of the things you’ll notice from their card is that they aren’t as heavily armored as some other Empire options out there. However, they are packing some decent firepower and have other skills to compensate. Their EC-17 Hold-out Blasters are range 2 but are backing 2 black dice. When you factor in their Sharpshooter 1 ability that makes them rather deadly.

Now, if you think that range is a little short to be effective, don’t forget they also have Scout 3. This can deceptively allow them to reposition early to get in closer than expected and threaten the enemy as early as round one!

I’m including this picture from my unboxing to show off their points, and also the upgrade icons for the unit. It’s also worth noting that you can also take this unit as a Detachment: Scout Troopers with the Strike Team unit. This is essentially a two-man heavy weapon option that’s quite deadly and fast.

Speaking of upgrade options AMG also has a few of the upgrade options mentioned in their write-up. So let’s see those up close.

If you’re looking for a very deadly close-range upgrade, the Sonic Charge Saboteur is perfect for taking on armor. It’s got Blast, Impact 2, and Suppressive. Or if you want to go the other direction, there’s the DLT-19x Sniper option. This weapon reaches all the way out to range 5 with 2 black dice, High Velocity, and Pierce 1. If you can slap an aim token on the unit first, even better.

Finally, also included with the kit are two more upgrade cards: Up Close and Personal as well as Emergency Stims. Up Close and Personal is a natural fit as it can be used when they make an attack at within range 2 — which, as we saw from their blasters, is their natural attack range. An extra Dodge token is always useful.

Emergency Stims is basically what you’d expect from a card called Emergency Stims. This one helps stop wounds the unit would take. Or rather, it delays taking those wounds. Hopefully, you’ve got a way to heal them up or at least manage those wounds so they can keep on fighting.
