It’s the Flesh-eater Courts time to feast with the new Scourge of Ghyran rules update for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar!

Games Workshop is continuing its Scourge of Ghyran rules updates. Today, it’s back to the Death Grand Alliance with the ghoulish court. These twisted “nobles” are looking mighty hungry, and it seems like the Realm of Life just rang the dinner bell…

“Welcome, noble courtiers, to a sumptuous repast. Laid before you is a smorgasbord of flavoursome formations, exquisite enhancements and mouth-watering warscrolls for the most illustrious and honourable nobles of the… um… Flesh-eater Courts?”

Up first, we have the new Flesh-eater Courts Battle Formations. This time around, we get two new ones for two very different play styles. Impassioned Serfs uses the Overwhelming Hordes rule to overload their foes. It’s designed to stop the enemy from making pile-in moves. The trigger is that the Serfs unit must be in combat, but can’t have charged. So, basically, the enemy charges in (or was already locked in combat), and now they can’t pile in. That’s one way to stop a power unit from following up!

Questing Courtiers is the other new Battle Formation. This one causes your heroes to gain a 5+ ward — but only after they have destroyed a unit in this battle. While I like this concept, I don’t know if I like this option over the previous Battle Formation. It really depends on whether your heroes can land those killing blows or not. But that’s also kind of the theme of the Flesh-eater Courts with the whole Noble Deeds Battle Trait, right?

Next up, we’ve got the new Monstrous Traits. There are three to play around with here. Revered Monstrosity boosts the to-hit rolls for the Companion weapons of non-Unique Flesh-eater Courts Monsters while they are wholly within 12″ of this unit. That’s a very specific subset of units, but the bonus is nice. Savage Abomination adds an additional attack to Companion melee weapons for this unit. And then we have Horribly Resilient, which can trigger at the end of any turn. This one can heal a hero for D3 or 2D3 if it’s NOT a hero. Interesting swap-up there.

Scourge of Ghyran Warscroll Rules

There’s two alternate Warscrolls to use for the Flesh-eater Courts. Again, these are both Matched Play legal and have their own points which are listed below.

The Abhorrent Ghoul King is back with more murder in his kit. This time around, he also benefits nearby heroes with some bonuses to attacks. Additionally, if he dies, it enrages nearby units, and they get even deadlier, too.

Following the Ghoul King, we also get a new Warscroll for the Gorewarden.

This version of the Abhorrant Gorewarden really likes to run (or fly?) with his bat-riding Morbheg Knights. There are some nice bonuses on the charge to be had there. Additionally, he’s also sneaky good at snagging objectives thanks to his new Swooping Descent rule.

That’s all for the Flesh-eater Courts for the Scourge of Ghyran. How are you feeling about this one? Are they eating good yet?
