Eberron: Forge of the Artificer is up for preorder on D&D Beyond, and it seems to confirm the inclusion of the Cartographer subclass.

Good news, folks, it seems the Artificer’s Cartographer subclass made the cut from the previous Unearthed Arcana. At least that’s what we can clean from the description of the preorder for Eberron: Forge of the Artificer. The book went up today on D&D Beyond, and promises a host of new player options, including the updated Artificer (and five subclasses), and revised versions of the Warforged species, as well as the Khoravar, aka Half-Elves.

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Up For Preorder

The preorder pages actually reveal quite a few things about the Artificer in 5.5E. For one, we know that the Cartographer is now an official subclass. However, there are subtle changes to the Artillerist and Battlesmith as well as the class overall. For instance, the Arcane Firearm, which was previously a feature limited to staves and wands and the like, can now actually be a firearm. Or any Martial Ranged Weapon. Which is great news for crossbow enjoyers.

We also learn that Artillerists can cause their Eldritch Cannons to detonate as a reaction when they take damage. All in all, some very positive trends when you look at the new changes from the original UA playtest.

It might be called Forge of the Artificer, but the book is so much more than just the Artificer splatbook. It’s also a new resource for Eberron in the age of 5.5E. This means there’s a ton of updated info for Khorvaire. Including revised Warforged and Half Elves, but there’s more:

Forge wonders in the world of Eberron, where magic meets marvelous inventions.

Play as the Artificer: the ultimate creative class. You’re not just an inventor or spellcaster. You’re an innovator, a bold-hearted visionary, fusing together magic and technology to craft extraordinary creations.

Take the new Dragonmarked Feats, for instance. These used to be species features, but now they are feat chains anyone can take, and that has lore implications for Eberron. Exciting stuff! And that’s just a taste. There are new backgrounds and spells, even new Bastion features.

And DMs will enjoy the section on blending genre and making their campaigns feel more noir or -punk.

See you in Eberron!
