The Seraphon are enacting their great plan. Or at least getting ready to fight in the Realm of Life with these new rule updates!
With all the armies gathering to battle in Ghyran it’s no surprise that the Seraphon have a plan. That plan includes three new heroic traits, three new monstrous traits, and an alternate warscroll for an iconic unit. Can they use these to enact the Old One’s Great Plan?
“Come with us now on a journey to the Aetheric Void, where cohorts of Seraphon wait to bring order to the galaxy and annihilation to anyone who tries to stand in the way of their Great Plan. “

Scourge of Ghyran Seraphon Heroic Traits
With three new heroic traits you’ll be able to pick the right one for your battle plans. Keeper of the Old Ways is up first. This one has some specific timing but it allows you to pick 2 different Asterim abilities instead of just 1. Then, they can both be used in addition to the one you chose during the deployment phase.
Child of the Stars is next and it can bring back a character from the brink! When they would be destroyed, on a roll of 3+ the unit is not destroyed and instead they heal D3 damage. Now, this is only used once per game but it can be a literal life saver for your character!
Finally, we have Chosen of Quetzl. This ability targets non-Monster Skink units and they have to be in combat as well as in range. Then, on a 3+, that target unit can move up to 8″ and it can move through combat ranges of enemy units and has to end the move outside of combat. Basically, this is a “Get out of jail free” card for that unit. It’s also usable in any Combat Phase. I’d use this after they attack but before they get hit back!
Scourge of Ghyran Seraphon Monstrous Traits
“Monsters help enact the will of the Old Ones, so this update features three powerful new traits. The first is Ancient Defender, which gives your monster more kick in combat, while Armour Cruncher makes them particularly effective at chomping through armoured foes. Lastly, Titan of the Land channels the power of a Realmshaper Engine as if it were a piece of terrain. It’s a pretty nasty trick, turning a monster into an enemy-zapping locus of destruction.”
All three of these monstrous traits seem potent in their own right. Personally, I’m a fan of Ancient Defender because it’s simple. The extra +1 to hit rolls for Companion weapons means this monster is going to connect with their attacks more often. There’s nothing wrong with that extra consistency in my opinion!
Scourge of Ghyran Seraphon Warscroll
The last rule update is the new warscroll for the Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur. Overall, this character is going to be pumping out more damage than the other version and they are even deadlier when there are wounded enemies nearby. That’s due to the Frenzied by Blood ability.
If that’s not enough for you this unit also has a boost for friendly Aggradon Lancers as they don’t lose rage tokens at the end of the turn — as long as they stay wholly within 12″ of this Alpha Predator. The final ability here is Thunderous Roar which is a way to shut off enemy Commands to a target on a 3+. Overall, these are great reasons to give this alternate version a try on the tabletop.
As always, you can run this version or the OG version but you can’t run both at the same time. This version of the Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur is Matched Play legal and costs 340 points.
